Hello everyone....I need the wise wisdom of all the moms out there in Montgomery County MD. My daughter's birthday is on 6/16 - the same day as the last day of school. She wants to invite approx. 30 people for an evening of fun and celebration and I need to find an inexpensive room that I can rent for 3 hours. I want to provide food, drink and music and just let them hang out. Anyone know of anything out there??? I've tried a couple of the local rec departments and they are booked for that day and evening...HELP!!!!

What can I do next?

Some of the local firehouses have rooms that you can rent. Also King Farm has a community room, I don't know if you have to live there, but you can also try them. I know that they let the City of Rockville use for classes, etc. The website for the community is www.kingfarm.org, I believe the contact info for renting the room should on the website.

Good Luck!

Try local swimming pools and clubs. They will have just opened this weekend and will not be fully geared up, nor already booked, for late business. When our sons were this age (13) we rented a nearby pool after it closed for the day and the kids had a ball. There are requirements for hiring a certain number of guards/x kids. We asked that in lieu of gifts each attendee bring a 6pck of soft drinks and we ordered a huge sheet cake and those big buckets of icecream. We decorated with a few dozen helium balloons tied around the pool deck on chairs and the kids could take these home. They all hung out and had plenty to do. If you are still looking for something like a rec center, try the Leland Center in Chevy Chase or renting one of the pavillions in Rock Creek park. The one near Candy Cane City just south of E-W hwy on Beach drive is a wonderful full indoor and outdoor pavillion. Have fun!

I doubt you'll find anything at this time. However, if you have a yard, rent a tent. If not, do you have a close friend who could possibly "loan out" her yard?

Gaithersburg Rental is excellent and is often recommended:

That way, you can keep things simple and you don't have to limit it to 3 hours. If you belong to Costco, for example, you can load up on snack foods and drinks, and do a deli platter with rolls.

Falls Grove and Potomac both have community centers. You might try a restaurant (Potomac Pizza Kentlands?) as well as some have private party rooms. Good luck!
