I'm looking for a free playgroup with like-minded parents. I live in the Venice/Marina Del Rey/Santa Monica area. I'd like to find a playgroup with moms who breastfeed, co-sleep or who don't and won't scold me for doing so,and don't have full-time nannies with them. I'm a second time mom with an 8 month old daughter and an 8 year old son. I'd like to help my baby make some baby friends.

Here's the great news!!! Monday Jan.26th anyone who is interested can meet at the Santa Monica Airport Playground at around noon. If the weather becomes icky we can move the playdate to my house. I live about 5 minutes away from the airport. We can make it a Monday at noon playgroup! Yipeee!

Hi L.,

I don't know of any playgroups but I do have a seven month old daughter and a fun, up-for-anything, five year old daughter. We don't live too far away, we're in Topanga. We'd love to meet you all on the playground sometime ~ just email me back after you get some sleep :)

Hi L.,

I just wanted to invite you to NewSongla mom's group. We are all different - I mean most of us breastfed/feed, some of us co-sleep and some of us are earthy /wholefoods types and some of us are not - but we respect each other's parenting choices. Some of us live on the westside, some in L.A. and some in the south bay.

Let me know if you want more info. or you can look at our church's website newsongla.net There is time to connect with other moms and their little ones on Sunday mornings at 9:30am and on Thursdays.

peace,
G.

Have you looked at the YWCA in Santa Monica? They offer Mom & Infant/toddler classes and parent support groups for kids ages 3 mos on up. I've been taking my 3 year old daughter there since she was only a few months old. The instructors and other moms are friendly and down-to-earth. Most Moms freely breastfeed their child throughout the classes and swap experiences and resources on organic living, co-sleeping, potty training, etc. The instructors abide by a non-judgemental approach towards child-rearing and are very supportive of both the moms and the kids. Most of the Moms attend with their children with the exception of a few nannies or grandmas - but it's not like the nannie cliques you tend to encounter at area parks and other facilties.

Hi L.,

My Name is T. and I'm a full time mom to a beautiful 19 month old son called Bodhi. Bodhi was raised on breast milk and co-sleeping as well. We live in the Venice/ Marina area but I grew up in Santa Cruz. I haven't found many mommies groups I've really loved. I do take him to the SM YMCA for Gym & Swim and a RIE class once a week. That being said I'm looking to start a beach day once a week for myself and some other mommies who haven't been over joyed with the groups they've found. Give me a email if your interested. ____@____.com, you should check out the parks at Playa Vista. The parks are really nice and clean, and they have a few different ones for different ages. Good luck!

Hi L.,

Have you checked to see whether there's a MOM's club in your area? The membership dues are something like $20/year, and my local club has all sorts of activities for all ages of kids: playgroups, outings, mom's nights out....

check out www.momsclub.org

good luck!

Hi L.,

If you'd consider a Jewish Mommy and Me Group in the areas you described (families of all faiths welcome, but environment is Jewish), I think I can help. The classes aren't free, but they're reasonable, and assistance is available. Feel free to contact me anytime for more information; the Concierge service IS free!
