Looking for a Pediatrician and Pediatric Dentist

I am in need of a pediatrician and dentist for my 10 month old son. My husband recently got out of the Army and we moved back to Orlando. So I need a new doctor and since I have read that you should schedule your first dental visit when you child is 1, I want to choose a dentist for him as well. We currently live near OIA but are looking to move closer to the Disney area. It would be nice to find both near Disney but am willing to drive the miles for great doctors. Any suggestions?

J., I'm not sure where you read that you should start seeing a dentist when your child is one... every doctor that I've ever spoken with said 3 years old, which is when I took my son for the first time. If you're brushing regularly then you're doing just fine. Once he has teeth that are touching you do need to start flossing though. If there are gaps between all of his teeth then brushing should be adequate. The flossing thing was the only thing I didn't know about... brushing was enough of a struggle for us! ;-)

I have found a great practice that I absolutely love! They are called Physician Associates (www.paof.com). I use the Lake Mary office, but I'm sure all of the offices are great. I have a 2 year old with Asthma and a 3.5 year old. They are very comfortable with the doctors as am I. My friend recommended them to me after she had done extensive research. I also recommended them to my neighbor and she loves them. Hope this helps!!

I think you need to update your profile with the correct area. Put in the zip for the Orlando area and you will link up with people from there.

I'm not sure what part of Orlando you live in. Central Florida Pediatrics is in Lake Mary just north of Orlando. I love them b/c it's a group of all women mothers. They are always understanding and can always by sympathetic. I've gone in so many times overly concerned and they are reasuring and loving. My favorites in the group are dr. benjamin and dr gayoso. In my opinion you won't find a better group. They are open until 7 pm and are open on sat in there Orange City location. My husband and I are trying to move and we may make the drive just to keep these dr, they are that wonderful. My boys never cry. They LOVE going to the dr.

God Bless,
R.

I am from Orlando, in Miami temporarily due to my husband's service with the Marine Corp.I can't recommend a pediatric dentist but I can tell you one you may want to avoid - Dr. Arelis Rodriguez. Her office is off of Orange Ave and Michigan, south of the downtown Orlando area. She was one of the few ped dentists on our plan at work. My son only went once and I would never take him back. She is not very friendly to start with - I don't think she smiled once while we were there. I guess you don't have to be good with kids in order to be a ped dentist. She didn't take the time to talk directly to my son and make him comfortable about being there. He was about 4 or 5 at the time and really nervous. He was afraid that she was going to drill his teeth - of course thanks to stories from an older cousin. I did my best to talk him through it and reassure him that she wasn't going to do anything of the sort. Well she didn't like that, and told him that she was the doctor and she would be the one deciding what needed to be done and not mommy. I allowed her to complete the exam and knew we would never be back. We came across her in the hallway while checking out and as she walked past me, because she never even stopped and had her back to me as she walked down the hall, she stated that she requires that her patients go into their appointments alone and parents wait in the lobby and that if he was not ready for this to not bring him back. With that she entered another exam room and left me with my jaw hanging open wide in the hallway. Now I know you may be thinking that I'm leaving out the part where my son's behavior was horrible and completing the exam was impossible but this was not the case. His future visits were with my regular dentist , whom I really like and he will see children over the age of 3. They asked me if he had been to a dentist before and when I told him who he saw in the past and why he would not be returning I was told that they had referred some patients to her in the past and stopped doing so because they got back really bad reports also.
hope you find a good one. your child is very young and you definitely want someone who isn't going to scare him into not wanting to ever go to the dentist again.
