Little Gym or Gymboree?

Hi! I've never posted a request here, but I'm always reading along and I'm hoping that somebody can help me. I really want to get my 16 month old daughter out and around other kids since she really is not around any right now (unless you count the playground at the Alderwood Mall). Anyway, I went and checked out the Little Gym in Kenmore today and it looks like an impressive progam. I also checked out Gymboree Play and Music today but did not get a good vibe from them because they could not give my any details on their programs other than handing me a brochure. So as of right now, I've scheduled a free class preview at Little Gym next week. I couldn't schedule anything at Gymboree since they did not have an updated schedule.

So my question is, has anybody tried any of these programs? Are they worth the money? Did your child get a lot out of it? Would you recommend Little Gym over Gymboree or Gymboree over Little Gym? Or else is there a different program that you would recommend?

Thanks for your help! :)

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your responses, I really appreciate it! We ended up checking out The Little Gym in Kenmore and I loved it! I though DD would cling to me but she took off right away and started playing. We signed up for the rest of the classes in this semester. I can't wait until Friday when I can take her back!

Personally, I think they are a waste of money at this young age.
I have three kids and I did Little Gym with my first two girls but with my 3rd child, a boy, I decided to do the same type things with him but without spending a whole lot of money. He's a very active little boy. I've joined meetup.com and met up with many moms who have children the same age and we meet at the park, open gym/indoor playgrounds, and at each other's homes.
I also work out at the gym 3 times a week and my son goes in the great childcare they have there for an hour.
If this is your first child I'd say try it out for awhile. It definitely is fun and you could meet some nice other moms and your child will get something out of it. But, I think you'll see you can find other things to do with your money.

We are part of Little Gym of Everett and LOVE IT. My son (3 years) looks forward to his class days... we even had his birthday party there! All the instructors have been awsome.

My nephew has been going to (Kenmore) Little Gym since he was 9 months old. It has been wonderful for him! I am impressed that they teach him things like "safe way down" for getting around. I have seen him use that in playgrounds and at home getting off the couch, etc. He is a VERY busy little guy and I think this helps cut down on the bruises! It's also good for teaching social skills. On playgrounds again I have seen him interact well with other children who he does not know. I also have a friend who has taken her 3 year old son there for years and has loved it as well. I haven't heard anything about the Gymboree but one thing we know as moms is to follow our guts! Listen to that instinct.

Hi M.!

Well, I have to tell you that after being a member of Little Gym of Everett for almost two years and having tried a Gymboree class when my oldest son was fairly little, I prefer Little Gym!

Here's why -- the music portion of the Little Gym is so incorporated into the activities, they concentrate on the skills what the kids need to learn (and are capable of learning) at each age, and I think you'll find that is entirely more valuable at this age. Kids are naturally drawn to musical things, and if your daughter is anything like my boys (now 2 & 3), then any kind of separate music class will be worth it as well. Kindermusik is the only other program I have tried and we really enjoyed it. In fact, Josiah (3) still asks for me to play the CDs that came in the curriculum kits we had at the time!

I also did not get the same vibe at Gymboree that I have being a part of Little Gym. The parents seem to be more appreciated and the kids are truly loved while being taught important life skills. And I have a good friend who took her boys to Kenmore last year and they all really enjoyed it!

All the best!
A.

Hi M., my son who is now 18months go to the Little Gym. We tried the free class at both, I didn't feel comfortable at Gymbore for it was too small for how many kids there were. I really like Little Gym we started when Jack was 16 month and it was the perfect age. I don't know what Little Gym you are going to but the one in Kenmore is great, the owner is our teacher and she is really good. I know it's a lot of money believe me when I paid that it was like another car payment, but it is now worth it. When they start to do their first summersalt (the cutest thing). Jack loves it, and I really like talking to the other moms and dads.

So that's that, I love going to Little Gym and would recommend it to anyone.

Thanks
K. (Mill Creek area too)

Hi M.,

My daughter is 2 and loves Gymboree! I have heard little gym is fun too. I disagree though that these are a waste of money. We love getting our child involved adn active. That is worth every penny! I think Gymboree gives you a trial period. I am not sure about Little gym.

Blessings,

K.S.
