Light at the End of the Tunnel?

I remember reading somewhere that 'flu-like symptoms' are a sign of labor... So I'm kind of praying that my runny nose, sore throat, and headache means that I am almost ready to go into active labor instead of meaning that I'm just sick. I am usually never sick, so it's rare that I feel this miserable. I can be in a room full of people with the flu and not catch it (Gotta love the strong immune system). So the fact that I am sick now is kind of odd.

I'm 38 weeks pregnant and have been 80% effaced and almost 3cm dilated at my last 2 checkups. I have been having an increased amount of braxton hicks contractions, menstrual like cramps (Though not during the BH contractions), random sharp pain in my vagina, random feeling of a tingly pain in my vagina, flu-like symptoms, and so many more early signs of labor. Plus, I think my baby may have dropped and I think I may have lost my mucus plug.

So what do you think? Do I just happen to be sick or is my pregnancy about to come to an end?

What can I do next?

Everyone is different- but it sounds like you could be ready to me. When I had my son he was 9 days after the due date and I felt sick and 'flu-like' the whole day before I went into labor.

Just wait for your contractions- start timing them, and be ready to go. I know this last bit is tough, but hang in there- it sounds like it is almost time for you!

Congratulations in advance!! You'll do great :)

Call your OB/GYN and tell him/her what you are feeling... and about your body!
That is the ONLY way, to tell.

I have NEVER heard of 'flu symptoms' being the indicator for labor.

It sounds like you are sick.

Rest, stay off your feet, drink lots of water because it helps contractions etc.

But TELL your Doctor... about your increase in Braxton Hicks/cramping, and pain/tingling in your vagina....

OH! And if you THINK you lost your MUCOUS Plug... TELL YOUR DOCTOR!
I lost my mucous plug.. and the SAME day, I was in labor.....

CALL your Doctor and give him/her the head's up!

38 weeks is safe to have a baby. Both my pregnancies was early. My first pregnancy was 1 week early. My second pregnancy was 2 weeks early (I had a c-section)... and both times, my kids were born FULLY formed, over 8 pounds each and 21" long.

good luck,
Susan

IDK? I am at 35 weeks (almost 36 hehe) and that is how I have felt the last two days. Just horrible menstrual cramps like I am going to get a period from HE(( It isn't fun. Each night I got to bed thinking "this could be it". Very frustrating.

Anyways, just wanted to wish you luck and hope the remainder of your pregnancy is a success. Enjoy the last few days/ weeks. I remember after my first two that after I had them I missed their constant kicking in my tummy. Hehehe.

aNyways, Good luck and Congrats!

These symptoms are not sign of labor,sorry...But you'll be there in a week or so:)When u are prego your immune system is weaker then usual, because it design by mother nature to let your body to except a foreign object-your baby.Otherwise it would reject it.So ,if you are experiencing a cold symptoms,it most likely you are sick.
Good luck with everything!

Sounds like you are on your way to delivery! When I had my first, I was "flu" sick all day and delivered her at 3:35 that afternoon. I had only 1.5 hrs. of labor before delivery (or so I thought). The doctor said my "flu" symptoms were my labor. By the time you read this, it might be over. Good luck and congratulations!!

Personally, I think you're ready because of all of the symptoms combined that you're having sound like all systems are go! But I was having flu-like symptoms last week (I'm 38 weeks now) and it turned out to be an upper respiratory infection, and I needed antibiotics (good love fall weather). Did you receive a flu shot this season? My OB gave me one at the office. Maybe you should check with your doctor because if it is the flu, I bet that would make delivery a bit uncomfortable!

By flu symptoms, I think they are talking about diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. It's your body's way of "emptying" the digestive system to prepare you for labor. I had them when I was in early labor and it was so not fun :( I was 10 days overdue though, so it was also kind of a relief. If this is your first pregnancy, try not to psych yourself too much into thinking that you'll go early. Most first pregnancies end at 41 weeks, 3 days. I feel for you though. Once you pass the due date, you will be one grouchy mama!

I've never heard of that.

When I was induced with my first I was hooked up to the monitor so we could see that I was having contractions. However, to me they just felt like menstrual cramps. So the cramps are probably mild contractions. When is your next check up? You may want to give your OB a call.
