Leg Strenght in My Three Month Old

Hi Mamas, I'm a mom of four and I thought I knew what to expect, but as they say...every child is different. Here's my question, my three boys had awesome leg strength from what seemed to be day 1, they would naturally just push off my legs when I would sit them up in my lap and "stand". My last, my little girl just lets her legs collapse and doesn't even attempt to hold herself up at all. I know she can kick them while on her back or tummy. Our doctor has checked her hips at visits with nothing said about hip issues. Any ideas? I tend to worry (what Mom doesn't) and I don't want to obsess about this but I also don't want to look past something that should be done.

What can I do next?

Dear Sara, I am so sorry that you have been a victim of Harold Z's hatred and immaturity. He has been harassing mama's on this site because he probably doesn't have anything better to do. PLEASE don't let him steal any of your day. He is powerless!!!
EDIT! I am so glad they deleted his response so quickly!

As for your question......
I would take your daughter to a chiropractor for a second opinion. Your doctor may be right that there is nothing wrong but it's always reassuring to have another opinion!
A chiropractor can tell straight off if there is another issue affecting her than just looking or testing leg strength. If you are not familiar with chiropractics for infants, they do not "crack" any bones in babies! :) they are very gentle!

Blessings on you and I hope you find an answer!

Every child is different, so I wouldn't worry. If she's got head/neck control, she's ready for playing in an Exersaucer which will naturally strengthen her legs and her her used to the idea of pushing with them. Good luck!

My first two (girls) were much as you describe your boys, but my third (a boy) had no interest in standing on my legs. It was just the way he was, and no problems surfaced later (he's 3 now).

I have 4 kids and one of mine did the same thing. The doc said she may have trouble walking because of another issue. She didn't walk until she was 16 months old but it was mostly because of laziness...LOL She never had any problems and she is now 9 years old and she is very athletic and a beautiful ballerina. Good luck!

My one daughter didn't want to stand as much either. She would just collapse her legs. But, no problems, she just didn't want to until later. Personally, I would wait a few months and give her time. Have you tried to put her on the floor with her feet near the wall to see if she wants to push off the wall with her feet?

You didn't mention how old is your girl but my niece didn't want to do anything with standing until she was about 14 months. If you'd try to stand her up she would just cross them budha style and collapse. Shortly after she started standing, walking and running. She's turning 3 in a few weeks and you couldn't tell that she was a slow starter. She was also very thin and limber.

A mothers intuition is never wrong. I would ask you doctor if you could have her evaluated by a pt/ot. I know she is young but if it happens be a muscle issue you can get started right away in working with your daughter to make her stronger. I am a mother of a child with sensory issues and while my son goes to therapy i see many infants coming into the office as well. I used to think wow they are so young. I also would ask what in the world can they do with the baby at this age. It is amazing what therapists can do to improve your childs abilities.
I hope this helps.
Good luck and best wishes.
