You can save by using native MI plants that are good for our weather (and the birds) and may not need a ton extra water.

Blocks nursery down past the airport also has great prices on there plants. Of course there's the wonderful supply at eastern market. I love the herb farmers stand, beautiful lavender.

FYI - go to Eastern Market in Detroit when spring arrives. We got all our landscaping plants/trees for a fraction of the cost of local nurseries. Also, check out freecycle and post that you want flowers. I have to divide mine every spring and so do others. I see many people posting their flowers on freecycle.

Check out landscaping books from the library, drive around and take pictures of what you like. You will be surprised at how well you can landscape on a budget!

This fall, I used Precision Landscaping to re-grade and re-seed my backyard. I was told that the price I paid was very reasonable. I don't have the number with me right now but you can look them up in the yellow pages. They are located in Waterford but I'm sure they're willing to travel (I live in Berkley and they had no problem coming out there and my dad lives in New Baltimore and has had them do work for him out that way too).
