My husband and I took a Labor class when I was pregnant with my son 4 years ago. I was thinking about taking a refresher course. Its only 1 night. Have any of you taken a refresher and did you find it helpful?. I thought the original class was very helpful- especially since I went 8 cm with out begging for drugs!! (which I didn't end up getting anyway)

What can I do next?

I took the labor class and sibling class for baby #2-it was great. You really do forget a lot in 4 years and it really brought home the idea of a new life to our family all over again. I say go for it. If you are delivering at the hospital that offers the class it should be free or really inexpensive.

Naw, I would pass on it. You already know what labor and delivery is like. What is to refresh from that? I did Lamaze with my first child. What a stupid waste of time it was for me. All that huffing and puffing didn't do a darn thing to distract me from the pain. When I was pregnant with my second child, I bought a book about the Bradley Method. I read that book and studied it with my husband and I have to say I enjoyed it so much! It's not like Lamaze with "special breathing" exercises. I did my first two pregnancies (labors) without drugs but still ended up having c-sections for both anyway. There are plenty of resources online to help you "remember" what you might have forgotten, but most women don't forget much about their labor and delivery. IF anything, they know what not to do, what to do next time, and what didn't work at all. Good luck with whatever you decide.

labor is labor and pain is pain you cant eliminate it or distract yourself from it . I have epidural drugs in my baby and keep pushing and ended up with no effect of the drug and me feeling the more worse and after three hours of pain it ended with C section so dont bother yourself with this when your baby will come it will be there and you will not remember anything about the courses . Im a doctor and telling you this time will be better and the pain will be less if you are not short or petite you pelvis is wider now and your muscle is softer and your uterus is stronger and your hormones are more co ordinated so dont worry think about your plan for it

I guess it would depend on what you wanted to get out of the class.
We didnt take the refresher class. Instead, we opted for the sibling class. It was a great opportunity to focus on our first born. The class did a great job at making him feel special.
And it included a tour of the labor and delivery floor. Which was as helpful and reassuring for me as it was for our son.

I would take it. Sounds like you got a lot out of class last time, so clearly it was not a waste of time like some other posters have suggested. I was a Bradley Method childbirth educator for many years and had numerous couples come back, either for private refreshers or to sit in on a few classes in a series I was teaching when they were pregnant again. In addition to refreshing your information or learning new information, it's also lovely to just spend that time focusing on this pregnancy and baby - something you tend to spend less time doing the second time around!
