Hi,
My daughter is turning 11 and really wanting a sleepover party for abt 12 friends. Yikes. I need something more than the Wii and DVD's to keep them occupied. I heard about these 2 sisters who come to the house to do nails, hair and makeup. Does anyone know of them and how I can get hold of them?
Do you think a jumpy house and Critter Man is too childish for this age grp? Any other ideas you can share?
Thank you so much

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for your kind, helpful and at times funny words, Stephanie, Mary, Amy and Clay!
Ok, I took your advice and nixed the jumpy house, critter man and even the hair/nail people.
I researched games like charades, etc.. And got cute, inexpensive prizes. The girls loved all tht.
While I prepared dinner ( an around the world theme of my daughter's fav food) they went through a basket of Claire's nailpolish, nail stickers, tattoo sticker things fr Target. Tht bought me some time. They also needed down time to chat n run around outside. Good thing. I was out of games n prizes n was busy getting food ready.
After dinner the girls got in their pj's, played the Wii and then a little later, popcorn and a movie.
I also forgot to mention I had a dessert/snack table set up with cookies, chips, chocolate and candy which was a big hit. The 12 girls went through abt $150 of candy/ snacks!
I ran out of steam n crashed at 2 am. The girls were still in the den giggling, jumping n yakking! I was conflicted as to whether I shld close things down or let the 11 yr olds wind things down on their own. I decided to do the latter. They said they crashed one by one after abt 2:30am. No fights broke out or anything bad happened. I did find our little dog "undresssed" the next morning which made me laugh for some reason! Everyone was fast asleep whn I checked on them at 8am!
For breakfast, I made an easy, yummy Paula Deen French toast casserole tht I prepped the night before. I served it alongside chocolate cereal, bacon, berries, whipped cream, milk n juice. The girls were starving and ate up everything. Despite the big spread, it only cost me abt $12-15.
All in all the sleepover party worked out well. It didn't cost as much as past bdays which was nice. The impt part was researching and making sure I had lots if games n activities for them. They loved the craft which was decorating pillowcases n getting all party attendees to sign them. I bought iron on tranfers, glitter pens, puffy paint, etc..This was a real hit!
Lastly, for favors, I got the plastic popcorn containers at the Target dollar bins and filled them with Easter candy, Peeps lipgloss, nailpolish/ cute soaps, etc.. They loved tht too!
Now I can say I've bn there, done tht but don't know if I wanna do it again! It was work! I am just happy my daughter had ( in her words...) "an awesome birthday"!

Hi, N.!

I agree...you are brave. lol But, I think it can be fun and fairly peaceable if you include activities, like you've planned.

I don't know the sisters you're talking about, but I have a dress-up party business which also includes a stuff-your-own-animal business (Noah's Ark Animal Workshop) and glamor party, where the girls keep the make-up (Bella Bee). You can check out my site at: www.EverAfterParties.com for more details about all of them.

I would love to work with you on something to plan for, even if just consulting. The animals we have are superb and super cuddly! The make-over parties are great for this age, and they learn about a certain value (friendship, for example) at the same time AND get to keep their make-up and accessory as a party favor! This would make for fun photos.

I also have a red carpet and karaoke machine/music I can bring, too. You can also combine the parties (make-over AND stuff-your-own-animal, for example.) I have lots of themes for the animal parties you can choose from for her age, including Strawberry Shortcake and Care Bears!

Please, feel free to contact me via e-mail or Mamasource. Either way is fine.

I would skip the critter man personally, and only do a jump house if it is the climbing wall, obstacle course, etc. type- I would look for someone who would do nails and hair myself, or see if you have a mary kay consultant who would do a skin care and make up lesson. she might even hook you up with goodie bags of a FINE kind for a reasonable price if you invite the moms to that portion of the evening!

My daughter did an American Girl Spa Party for her 11th birthday, and it was a lot of fun- they did each others' nails, with some help from a teen friend, decorated the flip flops you wear after getting a pedicure, soaked their feet in a tub with a spa treatment in it, etcetera. There are a few salons who do these parties if you wanted to "go out" or maybe see if they would do a home party.

You are a brave woman! That's a lot of giggling girls! I don't know about the sisters, but you could rent a karaoke machine and some tapes of their favorite artists, which would probably include Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, and others. Set up an area for a "stage" maybe. I wouldn't do any American Idol type thing where they judge each other, though - that can be harsh for that age. They should have a lot of fun singing in groups or individually. There are always the High School Musical movies and such that they might enjoy watching, with the popcorn and movie type snacks. They could play beauty shop with each other and fix hair - or if you know a couple of teenage girls that might want to earn a little cash, have them come do the nails and hair. Good luck!

I don't know about the hairdressers, but I think these girls are beyond jump houses. What about InterSkate in Lewisville?
