Hi, I have Kaiser. I signed up for the breastfeeding/paid medication/newborn classes in May. EDD Is 7/8.

Question....I need to choose which child preparation class to take

3/8 - 4/26 (it's 6 sessions, but they skip 3 in between)

OR

5/10 - 6/21

The second option ends at the beginning of my 38th week. The first option ends two months before my EDD. Which one would you choose? Do you know anyone that's taken these classes before? or any of the other Kaiser classes even? and..what did you think of them?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for your feedback. We ended up taking the earlier class. Fear of the unknown, and I'd rather educate ourselves/myself earlier :) Thanks again! :-D

Hi,
I also took the Kaiser classes before my daughter was born in November 2006. I followed my sister's advice and took them earlier in my pregnancy because I was more comfortable sitting for a long period then.
Also, you may want more than a few weeks (or less) to assimilate the information. It may raise questions for you about what you want or don't want in your birth and if you take the classes earlier, you'll have more time to research.
In my opinion, the childbirth prep. was okay, and the breastfeeding class was very good. The most interesting part of the childbirth class for me was seeing the labor & delivery ward where my baby would be born. Seeing it beforehand helped calm my fears of the unknown.
Best of luck!

I would take the 2nd class. Kaiser classes are pretty good and why miss 3 classes, if this is your first baby then you probably want to learn as much a possible. I took the yoga class in my 3rd trimester it was great! I didn't even think my body could bend that!! good class

I would suggest the earlier one. I know it is a little early, but I have more than one friend that put their classes off and then didn't finish before the baby was born. My little one was born at 37.5 weeks. Full term, but I'm glad that I wasn't still trying to take classes at the end.

I would take the earlier class. I had my son prematurely at 33 weeks and my class was supposed to start two days after I gave birth. Needless to say I didn't end up taking the class and I couldn't get a refund.

I would go for the first one. This is not meant to scare you - but if something does happen and you give birth a bit early, you may not have completed the second class. My first baby was 6 weeks early (and very healthy otherwise!) and I had put off the classes...and then freaked out because I felt extremely unprepared giving birth.

I would suggest taking the earlier class. I had signed up for a class that took place in my 38th week and I ended up being induced that week and had to reschedule.

Hi!

I work for Kaiser Redwood City and they have an EXCELLENT childbirth educator there. You didn't mention which Kaiser you were planning on taking that classes at. If Redwood City works for you I would highly suggest taking the earlier class and taking it at Redwood City. The more info that you have the less tense you will be and the more prepared you will be. Good luck and after your child is born the Redwood City Kaiser has an great Newborn and Me class that meets every Wednesday. It was crucial when my son was born. I met so many new moms and we still get together today, three years later! Good luck!
