So What Happened?

Yummmy! Is'nt it wonderful to have a meal that just reminds you of your child hood! And YES, I am drooling just reading what all of you ladies wrote! I already taught my 12 year old how to make the tater tot casserole and my kids just love it!
Cheryl O- Yummm! Recipe please...if possible! Yours really made my mouth water! lol...

My OH MY!!! Yes ladie's I agree! I think when it come's to any mother cooking for their child all they would need to do is stick their finger in the pot and it would taste sooo good! I miss my mom's cooking soooooo much! My father was also a fantastic cook as well! But then again in our family we are always in the kitchen cooking up a storm! It's wonderful to beable to make these meals for our own families! I guess we gotta keep the family "cooking" traditions going! Love all the responses and I am LITERALLY drooling while reading them all!

My mom is Italian, so it's hard to pick just one, but hard pressed I'd have to go with her lasagna. Although I do know how to make all her best dishes, and I tell her mine are better, they just aren't the same as when she makes them. Don't tell her that though :)

Great. Now my mouth is watering.

Big Italian meal, exactly the way my grandma used to make. Mom was more of a mac n' cheese type.

The last few weeks, i've been thinking about BLT's My mom would fry up bacon, toast some white bread, slather on the miracle whip, dad would go pick lettuce fresh from the garden, and since i hate tomatoes to this day, I didn't have to have them, wha la, a BL --my perfect sandwich.

Every Saturday night my mom would fry up the worlds best chicken...she would put it in a basket and Sunday after church we would go to the beach for lunch (we lived in Hawaii)....she would also make potato salad for us...yummmmmmmmmm

if it wasn't so hot out - I'd fry up a batch for dinner!! :)

my mom would also make a GREAT chocolate pudding pie - and instead of using milk - she used whipping cream - oh my word!!! melt in your mouth yummy!!!

my mom wasn't a very good cook, but my grandma always made this awesome roasted chicken with mashed potatoes. I've tried to have her teach it to me, but I'm not so good with a whole chicken and my mashed potatoes never come out as good.

I LOVE tater tot casserole...but not the way my mother makes it. One of my dad's girlfriends made it better.

Spaghetti was always my favorite and probably still is.

Love my mom's breakfasts! Any breakfast she cooked was great but my brother and I still request that she make us fried egg sandwiches on Christmas and when we are on summer vacation together. She fries bacon first. Then fries two eggs but before they are cooked she lays the bacon over it and makes sort of an egg/bacon patty. That goes on toast topped with cheese and mayo. Sort of a breakfast BLT.....

I grew up here in Minnesota - so Hotdish!! made with whatever she had on hand.

In the summer I loved BLTs with tomatos straight from the garden. It's almost tomato season here now, and I can't wait.

7 Layer Casserole
and of course, Fried chicken with rice and gravy.

The casserole is rice, tomato sauce, corn, ground beef, (a couple more things I don't remember--maybe onions and peppers?), and topped with bacon slices.

We all love my Mom's fried chicken, but our favorite was when my Mom would go to night class. My Dad would make us fluffer nutters. You take a piece of bread and spread peanut butter on it and then you take the other slice and coat it with marshmallow cream. YUM!

LOL Funny you should mention tator tot cassarole...that's my husband's favorite childhood meal that he makes me make him now too. :-)

Mine is Chicken and Dumplings by my Mom and she also use to make some great Beans and Ham Hocks too.

My Granny use to make these cobblers and pies! Even without measuring. She was a wiz at baking. I can still smell her canning the fruit. Great memories there. :-)

I love my mom's homemade chicken noodle soup. I don't care what the weather is, I will always eat it. I have tried to duplicate it but it is not as good as hers. Maybe because she has always made it special for me whenever I want it.

I loved my Mom's split pea and ham soup and her liver and onions. We were the only two in the house that liked those! The family favorite was a macaroni and cheese casserole with canned tomatoes and strips of bacon on the top. Grandma made peach ice cream in her ice cube tray with pure cream, a little sugar and fresh sliced peaches. Unbelievable!

My Mom was such a good cook it is hard to choose. I loved home made pizza with Appian Way pizza she put these huge slices of fresh mozzarella and loose friend burger it was the best. Another one of my favorites was Spaghetti Sauce and home made french fries we dipped the fries in the sauce it was soooooo good. She made a really good bbq chicken she fried the chicken then made up her own sauce and let it bake for a really long time in it. We had roast just about every Sunday after Church then on Monday she would make me roast beef hash with the left overs, I still remember her re-heating the mashed potatoes in the oven (as well as anything else we needed to heat up) things tasted so much better then.

My Mom was, and still is, an awesome cook! Everything she made would make everyone we knew start to salivate. One quick simple meal she used to make when we were little was Salmon Patties and Mac and Cheese! I don't know why it was so good, but she taught me how to make it, and I make it for my kids from time to time too!

OH! and there was always the home made chicken and noodle stew, which I make in the winters too. I never quite mastered her dumplings though... have to have her teach me that one.

Cheryl O must be my long lost sister! My mom makes the best fried chicken I have ever tasted. She always fixed it with either mashed potatoes and gravy, or potato salad. I have gotten the mashed potatoes figured out, but I can never make the chicken or potato salad as good as her and I have watched her do it a million times! My Grandma could always take the most simple thing and make it taste like something royalty would be lucky to sit down to. My kids feel the same way about my mom's cooking.
My Dad makes the best breakfast and catfish. I'm lucky because they could both make you happy to sit at their table. :)

My M. made this zuchinni caserole that looked so horrible we joked about it looking like we already ate it, but man was it good! Layers of sliced zuchinni, ground beef, rice, cottage cheese, muchroom soup, velveeta cheese on top.. Sounds strange even to me, but it was delicious. Ive made it several times over the years but with a husband who doesnt like cottage cheese, velveeta cheese anything with soup mixed in,, well basically hates caseroles, I dont get to eat it often. I used to make it when he went out of town and the kids loved it too.. Dang,, hes going to Dallas this week,,maybe its time!
