I asked my son if he liked the names Henry and Edward for a baby. He said "NO! I like Francesco Bernouli!".

I only have the one, so I have never had him coming up with names for a sibling. However, working with the public, I have seen any number of crazy names. Then, there are all the ones you hear about in the media. I sometimes wonder what people are thinking when they name their child.

@ Cheryl O.- I think you misunderstood the question. J. asked what unusual names that kids wanted to name their siblings. At no time did she state that she was naming the baby Pinecone.

:)
i still can't quite wrap my head around 'apple' for a little girl. it's a great name for a pony.

It's not just the kids who come up with unusual names! I have friends named Raspberry and Snowflake. Another family has 3 girls named Sonnet, Novel and Story, and a son named Rule. A high school friend named her daughter Holly. Pretty. Except the last name is Wood!

Another friend went to high school with Candy Kane. I went to college with Holly Hach (as in hollyhock) and Henry Ford.

So I always advise people to think about the combination of names, and also of what the initials will spell out if you monogram the backpack!

Actually, Pinecone doesn't seem so bad, does it?? LOL

I forgot to add that a high school friend named Sandy wound up marrying a guy whose last name is Gravel.

What about Antonio Pinecone Jospeph? :)

Your names are beautiful.

My son wants a little brother named Strawberry.

ps, I think some celebs would be pretty jealous if you named your child Pinecone (it's way cooler than Apple).

LOL!! How cute ;)

When I was pregnant with my son, my daughters wanted to name him either Max (his middle name is Maxim, so close), Freddie (after the iCarly character), or Skippy. They were fired almost immediately.

I recently asked my kids if they could have named themselves, what their names would be. The answers?: Alice, Sparkle, and Scotch.

God help me.

Oh, if only it were the kids who come up with the crazy names. We have all had some names come up within the family or just people we know that make me say, "Whaaaaat?!" But only in my head, otherwise I would be rude.

The worst is Precious. I know a few of them and to a child, none of them are precious. They are so the opposite of precious. It's like a curse.

Nothing strange in my family and my only daughter is free to name the pets.

I was on the phone with Aetna for two hours the other night and the supervisor's name was "Princess". She was in the South somewhere. It sounded funny three way calling the pharmacy, then the doctor....like where did C. get this girl??

Oh, B B., I love it! One of my daughters is obsessed! But she would say name him Finn McMissile! The other would probably come up with a nonsense word or more likely, just a funny sound.

My son and daughter wanted to call our 11 month old Potato Chip when I was pregnant.... I have not idea why. Even more funny, before my 4 year old son, Ryan, was born, we decided on the names Ryan or Brendan. My Italian Dad was jokingly dissapointed that we didn't decide on an Italian name and started calling him "Nunzio"... he still calls him Nunzio to this day!

My eldest called our youngest in utero "Paddick Feather Princess." and "Pepsi Princess". The fun part is that she had no idea Pepsi was a drink, she named the baby after a friend's cat, and we had no idea the baby would be a girl.

I love it when siblings come up with nicknames for each other. Sometimes they are not nice, but the ones that stick can be a sweet thing between them. (I still call my brother booger lol) My father had special names for both my brother and I.. he is still the only one who can use them. We also had an i-Pad inscribed on the back for him with those names.

Now my 6 year old calls her 7 year old sister "Trina" instead of Katrina. This makes said Katrina MAD this week. Of course that same child used to INSIST that was her name... go figure.. I think the nickname of Pinecone is too cute. WAY better then Booger!! lol

When I first heard some names like Autumn, Summer, Story, Raine...I thought those were weird. But in time I think what is "weird" now will become a new norm.

We have spelled our kids names different from the norm, but that was because both my hubs and I have non-norm spellings of our names. We both actually like having the different spelling and hope that our kids will too!

Sadly it's the parents that mostly come up with the off the wall names - and then kids get stuck with it for life!!

My son's haven't said names for kids yet...but my daughter loves the name Whitney for a girl :).

When I was pregnant with my second child, at one point I asked my 2-yr.-old daughter, "What shall we call the new baby?" Her immediate response? "We'll call it Macaroni." (I'm sure she got the name from a line in the song Yankee Doodle.) But we all referred to the baby as Macaroni until he was born, and then my husband and I named our son Ethan.

Pinecone's a lot cuter than what parents have actually named their babies here in PA. Just read the Statitical News, from the PA Dept. of Health, issue with the popular baby names. They include the weird names at the end of the article. I'll never for get the one year someone actually named their baby girl, "Tuna." Some of the unually names, that will leave you scratching your head, are:

Boys: Envy, Handsome, History, and Tank (I guess Tank was a rather large baby.

Girls: Au-Dacity, Dimple, Dingle, Pennsylvania, Physics, and Velocity. (I guess Velocity's parents are looking for a record breaking runner in the household.)

My daughter (3 at the time) named her two cats.
Cat one: Isabella Princess Anna Luna
Cat two: Rainbow Hearts of the Colors.

My great uncle wanted my grandma to name her baby girl Pearl Ethyl.
My daughter while I was pregnant referred to my tummy as "baby brother/sister" but now calls her brother "boy child crankerton". His actual name is Harrison. :) I quite like Pinecone. Very cute.
