Has anyone been extremely itchy during pregnancy? This is my fourth pregnancy and this has never happened before. My legs are extremely itchy. I do not have a rash but my legs itch from thighs to feet. I've tryed lotion, and anti itching cremes. I just can't seem to stop scatching. Has this happened to anyone else?

What can I do next?

I remember itching to do the skin stretching(in my case it REALLY stretched!)LOL! But other than that, not really any more than normal because I have really dry skin and use a ton of lotion year round. Are you using any different detergents, soaps, lotions, sunscreens, or medications?

Funny you say that...I itched like crazy with my second, mainly on my legs and upper arms. I told my dr. and she thought I was nuts :P, so did my husband. Nothing worked, it eventually went away.

I was scratching a lot too. I read this off baby center and it helped me. I used Curel lotion and Dove body wash. I'm in my second trimester and the itching has stopped.

Avoid hot showers and baths, which can dry out your skin and make the itching worse. Use mild soap and be sure to rinse it off well and towel off lightly. Then slather on an unscented moisturizer — some scents can cause irritation.

Try an occasional warm oatmeal bath. (You can buy oatmeal bath preparations in drugstores.) Wear loose cotton clothing and avoid going out in the heat of the day, since heat can intensify the itching.

Oh, yes, I had twins, and the itching is caused by hormones; twice the hormones means twice the itch. It just about drove me crazy. My doctor told me it was normal; some women get it. He called it the "pregnancy itch." I swear I thought at first that my couch had bugs in it, because it started at about 6 or 7 in the evening; just about when i got home and laid down to rest and put my foot up. The doctor laughed and said it does tend to start in the evenings, but of course it gets worse throughout the pregnancy. I could not take anything for it like Benadryl. The dr. gave me a prescription cream that now can be purchased over the counter. I think the name is Sarma; it's a powerful medicated cream. It relieved the itch for about 15 minutes. by the time I delivered I thought I was just going to die. And then it kept on for another six weeks because the hormones were still there. But my second set of twins did not have the itching. good luck; I feel for you, but you are not crazy.

Oh gosh, I itched, and the only thing that helped was the aveno oatmeal line! I'd take an oatmeal bath before bed, put the cream on, wake up halfway through the night to do it again, then a third time around noon. All the other lotions just made the itching worse.

I hope you get some relief soon!

Tell your OB about it at your next appointment. I know someone who had the same thing and nothing helped it, she told the doc and I forgot what the condition is called but it can be fatal to the baby if it is not watched closely.
