Is Emler Worth It?

I am looking into swimming lessons at Emler. They are considerably more than other places I have checked. But, if they are that much better at teaching children to actually swim, it may be worth it? My daughters cannot swim at all and I would like them to actually learn to swim for safety reasons-- not just "splash & play" in the water. When I called today they quoted me $375 per child for 20 weeks-- that is a lot for two! But, I have spent close to $100 per child to "splash and play" for 2 weeks and that was not worth it either. Any advice?
Thanks!
A.

My daughter will start Emler at the end of the month. I put her in there b/c we have a friend with both her girls there. The oldest is not quite four, and the youngest just turned two. Both of them are able to jump in any pool, get to the surface, swim to the side, and climb out--and this was this past summer when they were even younger (the youngest wasn't two yet then). Meanwhile, my four-yr-old jumped in after seeing her friends do this (she's had several short swim lessons and has played in the Lifetime Fitness pool many times), and my daughter struggled to get to the surface. I was trying to get my son in his floatie and didn't see what happened. Luckily, my friend was right there and pulled my daughter up and out of the water.

There may be other more private lessons that are just as good or better for a more affordable price. Admittedly, I didn't do a whole lot of research; I just know that Emler is better than the lessons offered through the city, through YMCA, and through Lifetime Fitness.

P.S.
When I went to sign my daughter up, I saw the 2-yr-old class with kids swimming on their backs, turning over to their front, etc....in other words, VERY comfortable in the water! I'm hoping my daughter will be there by the end of her session so she can have a little more fun in the water this summer.

My son, who is almost 7, has been going to Emler for two years now and loves it! After his first mini spring session and a summer session I took him to the ocean and he was awesome!! Of course he was wearing a life vest, but it was amazing. Now he swims wonderful on his own. He likes it so much he wants to be on the swim team as soon as he is able to! It is pricey but well worth the money!!! He takes classes year round and I haven't regretted a dollar! Swim Emler!!!

My two cents. I also didn't like Emler and took my daughter's out early and let them keep the money.

There are so many people who love Emler, if I were you and you can find the time, you might want to just go there and check it out before you sign up. It must be a personal preference issue. They don't do anything wrong and your kids will most likely learn how to swim there. But they lack individual attention and the lessons run the entire summer, and longer if you want to go year round. I have no interest in having a summer-long commitment every week. And there's really no reason to drag out the process. Lessons taught every day for 2 weeks, which is the way alot of places do it, are just as effective, if not more so.

A. I didn't like Emler at all. I still have a credit there and have told them to just keep it. I took our little girl to Lifetime Fitness and she learned to swim a enjoyed it the whole time. Good Luck!

We are looking at Swim Plus...don't have results for you yet since we haven't started yet, but it is one on one. For my two, it is 540 for 10 sessions (each child with one on one for thirty minutes) and two sub sessions in case you miss a lesson or two...so if you don't miss any...that is $540 for 12. Very nice man, they have a curriculum to share with you and I like the one-on-one aspect. They have a website too...location in plano.
