Is a Dyson Vacuum Worth It, Anyone Have One?

We have a 98 lb Golden Retriever and the dog hair is terrible. We have been using a Hoover Fusion cyclonic one for a year now and it was working great, but something is not working right and it is very loud and terrifying the children so we are in the market for another one.

So, anyone recommend their Dyson? Which one? Anyone know the difference between the normal one and the Animal one?

Thanks

What can I do next?

Well, we decided to go for it. We bought the basic DC07 one, but will probably buy the turbine attachent for the dog hair in the car and on the stairs, etc. So far we love it, especially how lightweight it is, that is so much nicer than the heavier vacuuums! Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences.

We have two dogs, I'm amazed at the amount of dust/danger that comes out of my carpets every time I use my Dyson. I actually enjoy using it! Definitely worth the money!

We bought the Infinity vacuum which is suppose to be the knock off of the dyson. It is cheaper. And it is awesome. I have never tried a dyson. But this one works the same with no bags or filters to replace. And all the instructions on how to clean it are on the vacuum. It is great.

Dear E. W,

I have had many vacuums over the years and finally bought a Roomba and LOVE it!

The best thing about it is you don't have to do anything except turn it on and leave the room. I find I vacuum more frequently because of it and because it is so often, dirt doesn't get ground in. My house has never been cleaner. Even my husband and kids use it. I sometimes tell the kids "Hazel" is coming in and they quickly pick up their rooms, put "Hazel" on the floor, push start and slam the door. I love that my bedroom gets vacuumed while I'm in the shower or fixing breakfast.

There are a lot of vacuums on the market. The best is the Tri-star, developed by NASA, but it costs more than my car and unless I can ride it to work, then no way.

The secret I think is frequency not always the quality of the vacuum. You can have an awesome appliance, but if you don't use it frequently, or at least regularly, it doesn't matter.

I wanted a rainbow, but the thought of cleaning a messy wet chamber was really unappealing. If I could have a Tri-star, I would, but I still would have a Roomba and I would encourage you to get the $300 model to start.

They also have one that is on a timer and will routinely vacuum even when you are not there. Mine docks itself when it is done and is a great appliance to have.

Go to the Roomba web site and they can show you how your room gets vacuumed four times before it is done. That is more than I do with a regular one. Mind you, you still need a regular one for steps and attachments for upholstery, cob webs up high, etc, but you will use a Roomba all the time. There is even a wet one that will mop your non carpeted floors and one for your garage called the dirt dawg.

You can always try one out and if you are not happy, you can return it. Check with your local retailer for return policies.

Good luck to you!

I have heard great things about the RICAR. I have yet to have a vacuum I like, and the next time I buy one I will be going to an actual vacuum store and not Best Buy or Target, etc.

I would not sell my Dyson for anything. I love it! We bought it at Kohl's during a sale plus got a coupon to save 15% that day on anything we bought. Kohl's and Target showed the best prices when we purchased ours.

Buy it it is so worth it!!!!!

I have the Dyson Animal. It is really great at picking up dog hair and everything else. We have a yellow lab who sheds quite a bit. I'm always amazed at how much gets picked up when I vacuum! I would definitely recommend it.

I LOVE MY DYSON! I have the purple one, the Animal (it cleans up after 2 big, furry dogs, 1 cat and 3 boys) and it works wonderfully. I've used many others, including the over-priced, gazillion-pound Kirby, and I'm sticking with the Dyson. Its totally easy to use and light-weight. Best of luck.
