We have a 98 lb Golden Retriever and the dog hair is terrible. We have been using a Hoover Fusion cyclonic one for a year now and it was working great, but something is not working right and it is very loud and terrifying the children so we are in the market for another one.

So, anyone recommend their Dyson? Which one? Anyone know the difference between the normal one and the Animal one?

Thanks

So What Happened?

Well, we decided to go for it. We bought the basic DC07 one, but will probably buy the turbine attachent for the dog hair in the car and on the stairs, etc. So far we love it, especially how lightweight it is, that is so much nicer than the heavier vacuuums! Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences.

We have two dogs, I'm amazed at the amount of dust/danger that comes out of my carpets every time I use my Dyson. I actually enjoy using it! Definitely worth the money!

I have the basic yellow Dyson. I LOVE IT! I got mine and then my sister-in-law borrowed it to clean her "already clean" carpets. She was amazed at how much dirt it picked up when the carpet appeared clean. So, after that she bought one too. I would definetly recommend the Dyson. They are so easy to use with the attachments and all.

I have used Dysons many times before and I am NOT impressed. My Eureka Boss Smart-Vac does a MUCH better job at a fraction of the price.

I have the Dyson Animal one and it is the best investment I have ever made in a vacuum! I have a collie, german shepherd and used to have a golden too, plus 3 kids. I burned out 3 vacuums and decided to take the plunge and get it. It works really well and is so easy to empty.

I have the Dyson animal and do NOT like it. I don't even have animals and I think it leaves behind alot of junk.
If you don't mind doing a payment plan get a Rainbow vaccum. I borrow my mom's whenever I can. It's amazing.
I know other people do like the Dyson but I have had mine for 4 years and wish I had not bought it.
Good luck!

We bought the Dyson for household's with animals and we absolutely LOVE IT! I don't know why we didn't purchase one sooner. It is amazing the amount of dog hair it will pick up! We have two short haired dogs and vacuum at least twice a week. In one sweep, it picks up so much. I know they are expensive, but I will admit that they are well worth the money you spend for it. Watch for coupons to Bed Bath and Beyond, that is where we got ours and we got 20% off ours. At least it is a little bit of a savings, but if I would have known how well it would work, I would have paid full price any day!

We've had our Dyson Animal (the purple one) for 4 years, and really like it. I agree that it's easy to empty and really easy to use. BUT, you have to clean it twice a year like the manual says to keep it running smoothly. (Not hard to do--consists of rinsing the filter housing and knocking the dust out of the main motor area--but a step that shouldn't be skipped nonetheless.) We lucked out because when we bought it that was before Linens and Things excluded Dyson from their coupons, so we got $100 off, which made the cost easier to swallow. You might want to search around to see if there are any similar deals. I can relate to your need since we, too have a Golden (78lbs).

PS-I will say that no matter how much I like the Dyson, the Kirby puts it to shame. HOWEVER, I am NOT spending $1000 on a vacuum. :)

We own the purple ball (animal) dyson and just love it!

We recently bought a second vacuum (a $100 thing) because we moved last year and have an upstairs AND main floor AND basement with vacuuming on every floor. I already hate the second vac because it does not pick up like the Dyson. I think it was worth the money and would buy one again. Good luck with your decision!

I love my dyson, I just have the yellow standard one and it works awesome with a toddler in the house. I hated to spend the money on it, but wouldn't give it up for anything now. I also love the LONG hose because I can do my stairs with it. My mom and my sister actually bought the standard one as well and they both have dogs(with lots of shedding hair) and they also LOVE them and have had no problems with it picking up the dog hair. We all bought them last year when Target was giving a $100 giftcard with purchase. Keep an eye out on there add because I think that it was about this time last year that they did it! Well good luck and if you buy it I hope you enjoy it as much as the rest of us do... I think that I just might go and vacume right now!

I LOVE MY DYSON! I have the purple one, the Animal (it cleans up after 2 big, furry dogs, 1 cat and 3 boys) and it works wonderfully. I've used many others, including the over-priced, gazillion-pound Kirby, and I'm sticking with the Dyson. Its totally easy to use and light-weight. Best of luck.

I have the Dyson Animal. It is really great at picking up dog hair and everything else. We have a yellow lab who sheds quite a bit. I'm always amazed at how much gets picked up when I vacuum! I would definitely recommend it.

I would not sell my Dyson for anything. I love it! We bought it at Kohl's during a sale plus got a coupon to save 15% that day on anything we bought. Kohl's and Target showed the best prices when we purchased ours.

I have heard great things about the RICAR. I have yet to have a vacuum I like, and the next time I buy one I will be going to an actual vacuum store and not Best Buy or Target, etc.

Dear E. W,

I have had many vacuums over the years and finally bought a Roomba and LOVE it!

The best thing about it is you don't have to do anything except turn it on and leave the room. I find I vacuum more frequently because of it and because it is so often, dirt doesn't get ground in. My house has never been cleaner. Even my husband and kids use it. I sometimes tell the kids "Hazel" is coming in and they quickly pick up their rooms, put "Hazel" on the floor, push start and slam the door. I love that my bedroom gets vacuumed while I'm in the shower or fixing breakfast.

There are a lot of vacuums on the market. The best is the Tri-star, developed by NASA, but it costs more than my car and unless I can ride it to work, then no way.

The secret I think is frequency not always the quality of the vacuum. You can have an awesome appliance, but if you don't use it frequently, or at least regularly, it doesn't matter.

I wanted a rainbow, but the thought of cleaning a messy wet chamber was really unappealing. If I could have a Tri-star, I would, but I still would have a Roomba and I would encourage you to get the $300 model to start.

They also have one that is on a timer and will routinely vacuum even when you are not there. Mine docks itself when it is done and is a great appliance to have.

Go to the Roomba web site and they can show you how your room gets vacuumed four times before it is done. That is more than I do with a regular one. Mind you, you still need a regular one for steps and attachments for upholstery, cob webs up high, etc, but you will use a Roomba all the time. There is even a wet one that will mop your non carpeted floors and one for your garage called the dirt dawg.

You can always try one out and if you are not happy, you can return it. Check with your local retailer for return policies.

Good luck to you!

We bought the Infinity vacuum which is suppose to be the knock off of the dyson. It is cheaper. And it is awesome. I have never tried a dyson. But this one works the same with no bags or filters to replace. And all the instructions on how to clean it are on the vacuum. It is great.
