INSOMNIA! Arrrg!
I have been running my @ss off since like 7am, why cant I sleep!?? I dont think I have been able to fall asleep before 2am in weeks! Its driving me crazy! I think I slept more when my baby wasnt sleeping through the night. Now she is and I cant sleep! I feel like I could hop out of bed and run miles. Im not stressed out about anything, in fact for me, I have been feeling pretty mellow and non stressed. Its not like Im laying awake thinking a lot. Im just really hyper! Help! How do I sleep again?
So What Happened?™
Someone told me that extreme temperatures can cause insomnia. I dont really know how, but I want to sleep!
Ha, this is like an oxymoron, Im asking a bunch of people who are up @ 12:30am how I can get to sleep! Hope you all get some sleep too! Ugh!

My husband read somewhere that taking a cold shower right before you go to sleep will help you fall asleep faster. So when he has a late Jiu Jitsu class he will come home and take a super cold shower, he's out in like 10 minutes. It's unpleasant but it might work for you.

Same here in NJ! I don't think I've fallen asleep before 3:00 in weeks! Doesn't matter how little sleep I get or how tired I am - 3 seems to be the magic hour lately. Of course, I COULD get off Mamapedia! Thank goodness my husband and I have separate bedrooms because I'd be keeping him up too. Ughhhhh!! BTW, I take benadryl (2) every night. If I didn't, I'd be up til at least 5.

I'm right there with you. Lately I've been having major issues sleeping. I ended up taking a Unisom tonight. I need to get some sleep.
Have you tried warm milk? Unisom? I hope you're able to get some sleep!
*hugs*

Sometimes... being over-tired, actually makes one more 'hyper.'
Once you pass, that window of time and get a 2nd wind... you are no longer tired. But actually are.
And the brain, is not turned off.
Mental awake-ness.
Don't drink anything with caffeine, after the afternoon.

You could try taking an antihistamine, such as Benedryl, at bedtime. I have a friend whose doctor recommended it. You could try taking the herbs Valerian and/or melatonin before bed. Try mediation or relaxation CD.
Do you know the recommendations for getting sleep? For example, use the bedroom only for sleep and intimacy, do not exercise for 2 hours before going to bed, do not eat for 2 hours before bedtime unless it's to drink a glass of milk that has tryptofan in it. So does turkey. Have a quiet down period before going to bed. Take a shower, read, listen to music, etc. Get sunshine exposure early in the day. It helps to set your internal clock.
I was just diagnosed with insomnia. I can go to sleep with no difficulty but was waking up every hour or two and getting up in the morning totally exhausted. My doctor prescribed trazadone. It works. I actually sleep thru the night and wake up refreshed. Trazadone is a common sleep aid tho it's not a sleeping pill. It was first used as an anti-depressant but left people feeling groggy. Taken in a lower dose it helps with sleep. It does make some people groggy in the morning. Thankfully, it doesn't do that to me.
