Innovative 9-Month Old Bathing Ideas?

We have been bathing in the tub with our 9-month old for months, but I would like a bathing idea that is just him in the water that doesn't involve me bending over the side of the large tub to wash him. I also don't like using all the water to fill the tub every time for just him. The infant to toddler tubs don't look that big or comfortable, and after reading a post of a mom who uses a bussing tray like they use in restaurants, I tried a plastic storage box on the floor of our large shower. The water got cold pretty quick (or maybe I was too slow in bathing).

Our kitchen is not warm enough to bathe him in.

What can I do next?

With summer just around the corner, you might reconsider the kitchen. Kitchen sink baths are great, and you can use the sprayer to rinse. It doesn't use a lot of water, and once kiddos can sit up, that is how I bathe them.

I love our Munchkin duck, but just a note on the shower because those little ones are squirrelly and slippery. Put a hand towel over the arm that will be supporting him. You will be thankful. I tried it once without. I didn't drop him or anything, but he was quite slippery. One less thing to think about.

We just take our son into the shower with us...usually my hubby stands in the shower with him and I stand on the outside and help shampoo and wash and take him when he is done (if my hubby is not home, I just do it myself...little more tricky, but I just keep his towel close by and set him on the floor while I get out...) We have done that since my son was probably a month old (he is now 17 months) and he loves it playing in the water and hanging with daddy. Works fast and well for us AND saves water (and your back and knees)! The only thing that you might check first is how hard the water comes out the top...ours was really hard, so we had to buy a new, inexpensive showerhead (I think we got the "rain" type and it helped with the experience!).

We found a blow up ducky that is about half the size of our tub so you don't have to fill the whole tub. And that way you don't have to bend over as far to wash them.

We did the Munchkin Duck with our boys. We're still doing our 10 month old in the sink for now, but plan to do the duck with her as well. Our boys were disappointed when they could no longer use it. I like the kitchen sink since I don't have to lean over. I've also used the laundry tubs. Those are roomier and more fun to play in than the kitchen sink. Depending on your design, they can involve a little bit of leaning, though. Have fun! The shower always works, too. I've done that with all three of ours. Just no water to splash in. :( Hope you figure out a fun plan!

Those suctioned bath seats are great! You have to stay right there within quick reach but I never had a problem with them and my kids love sitting upright in the tub. They have to be sitting in fairly warm water at the same time. But you can use your hands to wash them while they sit and rinse them off and get them out fairly quickly without having to fill the entire tub. My kids were in and out of the tub in less then 10 minutes. As they got older they just enjoyed playing in the bath! :)
I only did the water level to where my kids legs/thighs were covered, they were sitting upright and I closed the bathroom door to keep them warm. I also only did baths every other night as my Pediatrician said that the dry air here it is not good for their skin to have nightly baths if they truly are not dirty. That will save the water bill. The nights I didn't stick them in the bath I wiped them down with a warm wash rag. Babies don't need a bath every night.

Hi J.,
We love the Eurobath Primo tub!!! It is quite a bit larger than the small infant tubs but small enough that you do not feel that you are wasting water. It is also great for supportive sitting and playing in the tub. We used it until our child was 2 years old. We got it around the same age that yours is now...as we were looking for other alternatives for the bath. We bought the seat that suctions to the bottom of the tub and that was terrible and then we found this tub.

Similar idea as using the storage box but designed correctly. Also reasonably priced.
Happy bathing!

Hi J., I balance the blue baby tub from side to side of the bath. Like you we stay in there for a long time so when her water begins to cool down. I slip the plug out on the side of her little tub and take the hand held shower to spray in some warm water for her. Sometimes, I get in the big bath tub and slide my legs under the blue tub and relax and play. Have fun!!! K. K.

Hi J., We used the blow ducky tub from Target for $10.00. Perfect for our little ones until they were about 14 months or so. It even quacks like a duck, my 2 1/2 year old wishes he could still use it.
I would be careful of the seats that suction to the tubs. Some of them have been recalled and quite a few taken off the shelves. Most of the reasons were because parents thought that their kids were safe and left them unsupervised. Obviously common sense to most people, but you never know these days.
Hope this helps.

I echo the kitchen sink. disinfect it make sure it's nice and clean and there you go--it works great, and for the hair we used the hose on the sink but if you don't have one you could use a cup to rinse the hair, just tilt the baby back a bit and pour it over the head to rinse. I threw my back out after having my dd so we used the kitchen sink for a long time. it worked great.

My kids never took too many baths. I'd bring them in the shower with me, and while holding them, wash their hair.

By the time they could stand, they were old pros at taking a shower, although I stayed in there with them until they were about three or four (it's hard to remember the exact age when I let them start doing it alone).

I don't know what I would have done without my "safer bather." It's a pad that you can put in the bath. It soaks up the water like a sponge & keeps your baby warm on all sides. You don't need much water in the tub to have this work. I got it for a shower gift & I have used it & loved it with all 3 of my kids. Here is a link to one on amazon, but I would always buy them at Babies-R-Us. http://www.amazon.com/Leachco-Safer-Bather-Infant-Bath/dp...

Maybe you could just turn shower for him. if you have a hand held shower you could just shower him with that. if he doesnt mind the water it would be great and probably quicker
