Bath for 7-Month Old

My baby girl is 7 months old and I am writing to ask what suggestions you ladies have at bath time. Currently I just get in the bath with her OR I kneel down beside the tub. I just let her sit up in the tub while I always have a hand on her. She sits well but still I worry about her tipping over or her slipping. I don't fill the water much but just enough to clean her and she LOVES to play in the water. Is there an easier way to do this? I have seen those smaller tubs you can put in the bath, but is it worth it? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. THANKS!

What can I do next?

Hi S.,
I have an 8 month old and bathe him they way you do. He sits up really well now and doesn't tip over, even if he is reaching for something. And even if he did, he would be fine. I wouldn't suggest getting another tub because in a month or so, she will be fine. I lay him in my arm, and wash his hair so I don't get water on his face. Then I let him play and just sit on the floor by him. I notice if I bathe with him, he just wants to be held or try to crawl on me. Good luck!

I don't know if they make them anymore, but I got a blue bath ring from a garage sale... it has suction cups on the bottom and looks kind of like a booster seat (without the boost)... works great!

Hi S.,

When my kids were little, I used a storage tote for their baths (one I got at Target for $5). I set it in the big tub so it was easy to fill and to empty. They could hang onto the sides or lean against the back, it used a lot less water, and I could reuse it when they outgrew it to store some of their clothes. It worked great for us!

When my son was this age, I used something that was like a seat for the tub. Not sure what it's called, but it worked great. It suctions to the tub so it won't slip. Maybe try Babies R Us. Mine was a hand me down, so I'm not sure where it was bought. Hope that helps!

I had the blow up ducky tub from Target that I used with my son till probably 1 year old then I found one at Babies r us that has Noahs ark on it that is quite a big bigger in the inside and used it till he was almost 2. Not a ton of room but definately awesome to keep from bumps on the big tub also I didn't have to worry about chemicals from cleaning or hairs floating around. It was totally worth it. I got it out now for my 3 month old and use a tub sling inside till they can sit up.

At babys r us they have a blow up duck tub that is awesome. It is under $15 and provides padding and a 'quacker'(the beak quacks when you squeeze it). I have three boys and used it for all three.

My youngest is 15 months (almost 16 months) and I still use the smaller tub inside my regular bathtub. I have one that has a "spongy" circle in it for her to sit on (non-slip, or as I say, "less slip"). A simple tub is not too expensive. If you don't want to invest, then try using a hand towel (not finger-tip) on the bottom of the tub; you will just have to wring it out to dry after each bath.

The bath seat is what we used as well. And then when the kids were sitting really well on their own I just placed them on a thick (about 3 inches?) piece of foam to help keep them from slipping too easily. I got mine on a garage sale but I've seen them at Target relatively cheap in the baby section. It actually has the head indentation and everything to lay your baby on but I only used our baby bath tub when they were that little.

I also had a seat that suctioned to the tub. From Toys R Us I think. Great for keeping them seated safely and easier for you to manage washing.

S.,

I always used those infant bath seats from age 4-11 months. By the time they are close to a year old, babies have enough balance to stay upright in a slippery tub. You still have to stay right with them in a bath seat. Our's suctioned to the tub bottom, but if you have a textured tub bottom and the baby leans over hard enough, it can tip over. It's just to help you keep the baby upright and as long as you stay right with baby just like without the seat, it is really helpful when you are trying to juggle soap, washcloth, etc. New they cost around $10, but I am sure you could pick one up on Craig's list or borrow one. I think they are worth it.

Good luck,
S.

my babies LOVED the little inflatable tub you can put inside the normal tub. It keeps them more stable too.

My suggestion is if she is sitting up well, then just let her enjoy her bath. It was at this age I started to let my boys play in the water without me holding tham all the time. I'm not saying leave her alone but just to relax and see what she does in the bath without you always holding on. Good Luck PS This is a great time to get out all the bath toys you were given.

Hi S.,
I had to giggle a little when I read this post because when my son was that age I posted a very similar post! I couldn't believe they're wasnt' a well known product out there to help with this weird stage of bathing. Fortunately I found a solution! We bought a "Baby Go-Round Cushioned Bath Support" my LEACH CO from the Baby Depot (in the Burlington Coat Factory). I will try and attach the link to the website but it's kindof long and not showing up as a link.

Anyways, we LOVE it! It's soft and keeps baby safe in the tub. I wouldn't suggest getting anything else for you baby!

Good luck and hope this works!

Here's the link: http://www.burlingtoncoatfactory.com/IWCatProductPage.pro...

p.s. If that doesn't work, just google search bath seats and look for the one that is a soft, blue, and circular seat. It kindof looks like an innertube that a child would use for a swimming pool.

We used a blow up "duckie" tub that sits in the big tub for our grandson. He loved it and used it until he was about 18 months. It was about $10 at Target and well worth the money.

My son has always loved his bath too. I got a baby bath tub with the sling in it as a shower gift so that is what I used at first. Then we went out of town and it never dawned on me how i was going to give him a bath while not at home. My son was not even 6 months old then. I put some warm water in the tub and just layed hime down on his belly and let him play. He LOVED it. I just played and played. So that that was the end of the baby tub. I just let him lay in the tub on his tummy and back and he just had the best time.

I didn't get a baby bath until my 3rd and then wondered why I didn't get one sooner. It's so nice!!! I always thought it would be a waste of money and just another thing to store, but I got the kind that can be used from newborn to toddler age. You could probably just get the kind that is just for a toddler, though.
I love having him confined to a certain area instead of having free range of the entire tub, plus I don't have to worry about him tipping over or slipping and going under (even though I would be right there to pull him out). My 9-month-old uses the sides to balance himself and as leverage to move around.
For me, it was totally worth it.

We used the inflatable tub from Babies R Us that didn't have a big duck head (so we could leave it inflated and stick it under the bed because we only had one bathtub). We loved it and used it until our daughter was about 2! You still have to hold on a little, but they can lean against the sides and it was a little more cushioned, and you don't need to put much water in it. It was about $12.

We never used an infant tub or one of the blow up tubs.... I thoguht they were a waste of money. Instead from birth we used one of the large baby sponges. You can find them at Wal Mart or Target in the baby isle for $4, its about the size of a baby and shaped like a bear, and yellow. They are nice because baby can sit up on it and no slip around ,and if she does tip over she's on a big sponge.... won't hurt!
We used the baby sponge for both kids until they were well over 2, itw as nice for them to have a non slippery spot to sit in the bath tub. $4 at Wal Mart in the baby isles. :)

We used a bath mat and then when my boys were very little (up until they were really moving around on his own) I folded an old towel under them as well. It gives them a bit of cushion and more traction so that as they start to reach for things their legs don't slip out from under them. There are so many hunks of plastic that you end up buying for your kids, I figured the baby bath was one I could skip - and never regretted it.

P.S. my boys love their baths and always have. My oldest is five and still *wants* to take a bath every night.

For my first daughter I had this cute inflatable mini bathtub that fits inside your regular tub. It has the soft sides and soft bottom and is smaller so they don't tip over so easily. At K-Mart (couple of years ago) they had one shaped like a big duck that actually quacked when you squeezed the beak. It was so cute. I didn't use one for my second daughter because she just wanted to bathe with her big sister.

Yes the smaller tubs are worth it. I put mine in the tub, and my daughter would hold onto the sides. She's almost one now and we use one of those things that looks like a lawn chair, just so she won't slip. But the baby tubs were perfect for us.

I have 4 kids and don't really think those bathtubs are worth it. However I did have a bath ring that I put in the tup for them that they sat in. It helped to keep them from slipping around. I also didn't have to worry about them slipping out of my hands. The bath ring suctioned to the bath tub.

S. , your 7 month old is at the stage where she is starting to sit up right? If so you can buy a tub ring. It is a saftey seat for the tub . A tub ring helps them to sit up and they can splash and play without fear of falling over into the water, that is to say if you turn your back to grab a wash cloth or something. You can look on-line for different ones we got ours at Target. Good Luck

We also used the inflatable duck tub. I think it is Munchkin brand. Our daughter loved it! We got it as a baby gift and it was definately one of the gifts we used the most. Our daughter is 2-1/2 now and she doesn't use it in the tub any more but she plays with and uses it for a "boat". It isn't very expensive so I think it is worth buying.

We did not get a smaller tub. We had a tub mat with suction cups to keep him from slipping and one of us got into the tub with him.
