Innotab vs Leapad

My kiddo wants an Innotab or a Leapad. She will be 6 next month so I'm not sure if they are too young for her. She is in 5yr old Kindergarten in school and in the 1st grade class for reading time. Would these items be too young for her? Can you upload movies and things from itunes to them?

What can I do next?

Others I have talked to have said either is fine for that age - especially if there are younger ones that could possibly use it later. They thought Leappad was a little easier to download things to.

My almost 6 year old Kindergartener boy has a LeapPad and loves it! He reads at about 3rd grade level and does advanced math as well. It is NOT too young for him.

You can only download movies from the LeapFrog website, so no itunes, but all the LeapFrog movies are available along with some ebooks etc. Mostly he enjoys the cartridge games (they are actually really "good" games... his 10 year old cousin negotiated a trade of his DS for a day to get to play with it), the apps (he's particularly into taking care of his virtual pet who ALWAYS needs something) and the Art Studio and Book Maker (gives templates for making their own interactive ebooks).

Take her to Target or ToysRUs where she can play with both in the demo isle and see what she thinks. To ME the Innotab looks a little younger, but not bad.

Hope this helps.

My twins are almost 3, and they each got a LeapTop for Christmas, along with my 18 month old. They love them, and they're not too old for them at all. They can be customized to their age, and will grow with them. The best part is that they were less than $20 each!
I would suggest you check out www.leapfrog.com and look at things that are age appropriate for your daughter. There are lots of things for her that will work well, if not the LeapPad.

The Innotab (has an MP3 Player) and Leap Pad (which has a built-in camera and video recorder) are both geared towards 4-9 year olds. Some of the games are geared towards 4-7 so you would need to check and see which ones are aimed at the older crowd.

Both of these sites have demo videos.

Personally i would take her to a store that has them both so she could play on them and check them out to see which one she prefers, and you can also see if they are "too young" for her.

We just got my son (he's 6 1/2) the Innotab for Christmas. He loves it! Leap Frog makes a similar item but is about $20 more expensive. However, hidden costs for the Innotab (I'm not sure if it's the same for the Leap Frog version). In order to download anything, you need to buy an additional memory card. Also, the Innotab eats through batteries like you wouldn't believe! You can get an ac/dc adapter for it. VTech makes an adapter for around $10 but it's hard to find. Walmart was the only place here that carries them (not Target, Toys R us, or Shopko, though ALL sell the Innotab) but they were sold out and had no clue when they were going to be getting more in. We ended up getting a universal 9V adapter (also not easy to find as Radio Shack was the only place that even sold 9V adapters and we had to go back 3 times to figure out what we needed-- positive or negative end, and what size, so I recommend taking the device with you when you shop!) that works fine but was twice the price. Games in the store are very similar in price for both items. Quite a few downloads you can get online for around $3-$5 each (although Innotab comes with 3 free downloads). Like somebody else said, you need to look at the age for the downloads as they range in age from 4-6 years to 7-9 years. My son has had a blast so far with his Innotab!

My daughter will be 4 on Jan 25th and we got her the innotab. She plays with my tablet all the time and we thought getting her the innotab was best. It looks just like a tablet and she loves it. Now she has her own to play with. She just got it for Christmas and I haven't been able to look at it depth. But it does have a MP3 player, calendar, and note section. The calendar would be great so that she knows what events are coming up or any school work that needs to be done at home and when they are due. It also has drawing apps which are pretty cool. I am glad that I bought it for her.
