Hi L.,
My daughter is 5 and has been going to the Preschool language development program (PLDP) at the UTD Richardson campus since last June. She has been involved in several different speech programs (private therapy, Baylor Our Children's House, PPCD in Lewisville and Plano, Easter Seals) PLDP has BY FAR helped her the most in her speech. I truly believe that b/c of Callier, Mary Beth Schmidtt (lead speech path) and the graduate students, Anna will be ready for kindergarten next year. I honestly cannot recommend the PLDP program enough it is EXCELLENT. If you have any specific questions, please email me and I would be glad to help!

I work at UT Southwestern and i know many doctors whose childeren have gone there and i know of several other employees who were lucky enough to be able to afford to put their children there and they have all been pleased. If i had the money to put "down" (they require 1 month in advance and i have 2 children) then I would have them there in a hearbeat. The get great socialization because they are in the classroom with hearing impaired children so they get to learn signlanguage first hand and they teachers stay with them for a long time. Really, if I were you and was able to do it, I WOULD...

Hi L.,

I have several clients that attend the UTD program and seem to be happy with it.

I am a speech-language pathologist, and have a program called S.T.A.R. Music. This is a parent-child, music and movement program at which we target each child's individual speech and language objectives.

I invite you to visit the S.T.A.R. Music web site at www.startherapyprograms.com.

I would also like to extend an invitation to a couple of our upcoming free events.

4/23 - Learning to Play. Playing to Learn. This presentation is designed to help parents identify their child's play style, and how to best play with them to improve their communication skills. Many play ideas will be shared.
This will take place from 7:00-9:00, at 2035 W. McDermott, Suite 450. This is located at the SE corner of the Albertson's shopping center. We will meet in The Dance Movement.

5/7 - Celebrate Better Speech & Hearing Month with S.T.A.R. Music! 5:00-7:00, we will have a D.J., fun music, and age appropriate games. There is a covered pavilion, so feel free to bring a picnic dinner and meet some new friends.

Please let me know if you would like to take part in any of these events. If you are interested in finding out about S.T.A.R. Music summer programs, please let me know. The summer brochure is not on the web site, but it would be my pleasure to e-mail the information side of the brochure to you.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I hope we have the opportunity to speak soon.

Best Regards,
S. Ambers, M.S., CCC-SLP
Director/Speech-Language Pathologist

Hello!
I do not have any children who have been in the preschool, but I received my audiology training from the Callier Center, and we worked with the preschool frequently. From a professional viewpoint, it seems like an excellent school. There are a lot of educational activities and many of the children with normal hearing learn some sign language. (The preschool also serves deaf education children from DISD). There are classes with speech only and classes with speech and sign language. Being an audiologist, I think it is a wonderful thing for any child to be getting so much language stimulation. There would also be opportunities for your child to participate in graduate research in speech/language, hearing, and/or psychology if you would like the free (sometimes paid) testing!
