my three month old has a recurring redness in her neck fold. I have taken her to the dr.twice and was told to use zinc oxide along with another cream for yeast. It gets better but never completely gone. Does anyone know what else might help?

What can I do next?

It's because the area stays moist. You can put some arrowroot powder on her neck and try to air it out every day. It will also go away on it's own when she starts sitting up on her own.

Try to keep it clean and dry. At night rub a little unrefined coconut oil on it.

This is caused by the area remaining constantly moist. My daughter rubs olive oil on her baby's skin and this helps keep the moisture away from the skin.

We had the same problem with our two. Try Aquaphor, that worked well for us.

She needs to get air to that area. When my boys had this, I would lay them across my thighs on their back and ease their head back so it was supported by my outer thigh. I did this for about 5 mins 3-4 times a day to let that neck dry out from all their drooling.
It also gave them a different view of the world :)

After baths, lay her back and dry her skin with a cool hairdryer on the low setting. Keep it very dry. If she eats and breast milk/formula gets under there, wipe it with a damp cloth and dry it with the hair dryer again. If you don't have access to one, use a dry cloth to pat it down really well. Keep Vaseline on it, or any other type of barrier cream, until it goes away. Are you sure this is yeast? Both of my kids went through this an it was contact dermatitis from the moisture, rather than yeast. Yeast can be treated with over the counter lotramin (what people use for athlete's foot). However, I don't know if it can be used on a 3 mo old. Try keeping it bone dry first.

my daughter got this at that age. she has sensitive skin. once it clears up with the zinc try putting lotion in that area. seems like my daughter got cradle cap also. i ended up putting oil (burts bees) in her hair with the shampooh. i just had to find the balance of moisture. she would get the redness from sweat, drool, milk or anything moist that was not washed right away!

The problem is, that it is a skin fold...

babies are chubby, and have folds like this.... as she grows, it will go away. Unfortunately, for now, it is there... summer makes it worse, as it is warm and moist in the skin fold for yeast to grow.

Best thing to do is use the yeast cream as instructed..... between times of putting on the yeast cream, put in a thin layer of zinc oxide. Hopefully that will help keep it from being so moist.

Don't use powder/cornstarch..... cornstarch has sugars in it, and that is what the yeast likes!

This happens because moisture gets stuck in the folds. After bath be sure to dry her really really well, then apply the cream. I've been using Burts Bees body butter on my 3 1/2 month old and it is really working nicely. Zinc oxide will also help, that is what is in most diaper rash creams. It's basically contact dermatitis which is a skin irritation similar to a heat rash or diaper rash.
