T., I didnt feel my baby move until I was close to 6 months. I had heard her heart beat and saw her on the ultra sound but thought that there may be something wrong because I couldn't feel her moving. I found out soon enough that there was nothing wrong and she started moving and after she started she barely ever stopped.

I remember I was slow to feel my baby move compared to what all the "books" said...but the first time I did it was in the evening and I was sitting on the couch relaxing with a glass of juice. For the next two weeks, I didn't feel her at any other time except when I was on the couch at night, after a glass of juice. The same thing happened to a friend of mine. Try paying attention for bubbles or butterflies after drinking something sugary and see if you notice. Don't worry! Soon, you'll be asking the baby to stop kicking for just a moment so you can get some peace!

Don't worry about it sweetie! Every woman is different. I am a plus sized girl and I couldn't feel my first one move for quite some time! You feel the little one move here before long, and then they will start doing karate in there and you will long for those nights when you could sleep through the night without being jabbed in the ribs. :) ~A.

Hi T., my name is S....I am 29 and my daughter is 9...when I was pregnant with her, I hardly felt her move....if the doctor says that all is well, then most likely it is. Some babies act differently from others. Ask the doctor ,but I found when my daughter was born, she was a very tired baby, she slept a lot. I worked odd hours, so she was active when I was asleep. So, ask the doctor, and if he/she says all is well, all babies develop at different stages...the baby may move later in the pregnancy. Also, it can sometimes feel like gas or a flutter, which can be barely noticed...Good luck to you, T.!

Hi I am 35 yrs old and my baby will be 1 in two weeks. I never felt her move either. As a matter of fact i had to have ultra sounds alot becuase I had gestational diabetes and when ever they were doing that she was moving around alot. At the sonogram where we were suppose to find out what she was it took a good 30 minutes for her to stop. Again this was at all the sonograms she was moving and i felt nothing. She was born two days passed her due date and was a little girl only 5 pounds. Maybe that is why i did not feel her but she is very healthy and always on the go now. If it is worrying you that much just call the doctor and they will get you in. At least my doctor would. Hope all goes well.

Hi T.
I had the same question! I actually had a little spotting when first pregnant, so it scared me when I couldn't feel him moving or kicking by 5 mos. The doctor did multiple ultrasounds, just to be sure he was ok, and also because I was freaking out! Then, at around 5 1/2 mos. I started feeling "muscle spasms" (like when your eye twitches) on my stomach. Actually was my little guy! Once he got started, he never stopped - he's 11 mos. old and still going, going, going!

Hi T.,
I couldn't feel my baby move for most of my pregnancy. It was very upsetting to me. The doctors told me that the baby was fine. I could hear her heart beat, but she just wouldn't move. I had alot of fluid was one reason and the fact that I was overweight was some of it too. The main reason was I just had a very laid back baby. LIke Stacy had mentioned about her baby. Mine was the same. She slept alot once she got home. She was like that until about 9 mo old.
NOw that she is 29 months old. You would never believe in a million years that this baby was ever still.
If your still this worred about it, then talk to your doctor. Believe me I understand all to well the concern about our baby not moving enough. I had myself worked into a frency about it at times. That is not good for you or your baby. If you have questions or concerns just keep after those doctors until you get the answers you are happy with.

Good Luck

Go to the Dr. If they are not understanding and compassionate about your questions as a first time mom find another Dr. You might be feeling it and not know. I think I was about 5 months with my first when I thought I was having bladder spasms. I had had those before so I knew what they were. I though maybe this is the baby. It was the baby and she was merciless with her kicking once she got started. I did have a lot of questions and the Dr. I had with my first was not always very nice. Your Dr. should be willing and able to answer all your questions.

Quickening is felt around 20 weeks and everyone is different. Don't be impatient but make sure you keep your appointments and report any unusual signs. It shouldn't be much longer if you're now 5 months. Maybe you're just going to have a nice quiet baby?:) Good luck~

Babies are not grown according to a schedule of "shoulds." How tall are you? Maybe you have a stealth baby who only moves when you are asleep. Next month at this time you will probably be writing to all of us to say, "How can I get the baby to be still so I can sleep?" :)
Relax. Enjoy yourself. Go and do some things right now like see a movie, go to a restaurant, shop, hike, whatever, that you will not be able to easily do once the baby arrives.
Don't fret about what everyone tells you, just listen to your heart and enjoy your own unique individual experience!

Hello T., I know exactly how you feel. I am a first time mom and the whole time I was pregnant I kept wondering why I didn't get more ultrasounds. I only had one the 21 week development one. They did the doppler at every appt. and measured my belly. I think its called fundal measurments or something. Are they doing that? That is the key to see if the baby is growing good. I guess they just don't do them that much anymore.
I didn't start really felling her till @5 1/2 - 6 months then she was non stop. You'll KNOW when you feel them. After that (like 71/2 months on) If you don't feel them for like a whole day then worry. Till then stop worring it can only cause problems from stress.
If you REALLY feel there is something wrong then call your OB. Also at Babies R Us you can buy one of those dopplers yourself for like 20$. I had a friend who did this it just helped her mental state LOL :)
Good luck!!

My daughter didn't move alot till the last trimester and then it felt like I had a little alien inside of me moving my belly left to right, up & down and the very last month I cried every day because she wouldn't calm down and let me sleep and when she did move and do her back flips it felt like my skin was being pulled off of my belly it hurt so bad. So you will definitely have that to look forward to, everyone is different so calm down and enjoy every minute of your pregnancy! My thoughts are definitely with you!

T., Congratulations!

Relax. You could be a little less than 5 months pregnant, and your baby may not be moving in such a way that you can feel it yet. If you've been getting your scheduled prenatal care, and you don't have any high risk condition, there's no need to worry. There are so many normal reasons that you might not be feeling anything yet. I'm sure you'll feel something before 6 months!

I am a midwife. Many women do not feel the baby move until 20 weeks or beyond with a first baby, especially if you're a woman of size. Don't worry! As long as your uterus is growing, and they are getting a heart beat at your prenatals, don't be concerned.

I wanted to respond because i was in your shoes 7 months ago. All of my sisters and I were expecting about the same time and they were constantly feeling kicks, yet I barely did at all. My mom and sisters would freak me out telling me it wasn't normal to not feel kicks all the time and every doc visit i would ask, but the heart rate was great and they could tell the baby would move when they were looking for his heartbeat.

So to answer you question, everything is fine. Ian came out perfect, and a lot larger than expected too so he was definately growing! They say that however they are in the womb is how they will be when they are here and it is so true. He is such a good-natured, laid back baby. He barely cries!

If it does make you nervous, your doctor can hook you up to a monitor and can check to make sure he/she is fine. They try to steer clear of doing any more ultrasounds after that first one. E.

Hi T., I'm vary sure you are worring about nothing, but I do the same thing. I was just under 20 weeks when I felt her move and realized that I felt her before. You are more then likely feeling them but just don't know it. Sometimes they feel like gas bubbles and somthimes not. Just try to hang in there and eventully they will let you know they are there.

How many weeks are you? I didn't feel even the slightest twinge from both my babies until I was about 22 weeks. And then, it was very slight. So, I agree, that if you are getting regular prenatal care & hearing a heartbeat, it probably won't be long. Also, they say that 1st time moms aren't always sure what they feel in the beginning & it's different for everyone.

If you are getting heart tones that is great!! It is possible that the baby may be smaller, check with the physician on your next visit about your concerns. They may want to do an ultrasound. You should be feeling the baby move, but you should really notice movement in 2-4 weeks. Right now it should still feel like butterflies in your stomach.

I work OB/GYN....don't get too worried!! Also call tour office if you have questions.

congratulations on the pregnancy. this is a very wonderful time. on the baby moving, you did just turn 5 months and very soon you should start to feel the baby. in all honesty it will feel like a gas bubble that stays in the same area. that is the best way to describe the sensation. just relax, because kids have there own timing.

If this is your first, 20 weeks is about the time moms start feeling movement. But some start before that and some after that. It isn't a big deal to not be sure if you have felt them.
If you really feel uncomfortable about it, trust your instincts; NOT that anything sounds wrong, but you should start trusting your mothering instinct now. :) Talk to your care provider about your worries. Perhaps they can help calm your fears with the heartbeat again.

Hi, If this is your first you may not have felt realized you felt it kick. At first it can feel like bubbles in your stomach. For a peace of mind I would call your ob or midwife and let them know you have not felt it and are concered. Here are some things ob tell people to do. Drink something with caffine. This will usually do the trick. If you are going to Miami Valley you can just go to the Berry Center to the info desk and tell them you need to be check out. They will take you upstairs and have a nurse evaluate you. Please fell free to email me at ____@____.com

Hi T.

Any time I had issues with wondering why I didnt feel the baby move, my doctor would tell me to eat or drink something sweet and wait about 1/2 and hour. Then just relax and you should feel the baby move. At five months its hard to feel the movements. Sometimes you just feel little flutters. If this doesnt work for you and your concerned talked to your doc about another ultrasound. Good Luck

Everyone is different. You might just have a mellow kid in there, if so - be grateful! LOL. If you feel like something truly is wrong (as did I the entire pregnancy), then call your doc and request a visit with him/her or another ultrasound. You will probably have to pay out of pocket for the ultrasound, but atleast you will have piece of mind. Best wishes.

Hi and congrats! I am sure everything is aok :) It's hard to tell the 1st time. Sometimes it feels like tiny little bubbles popping in your stomach. You really don't feel a whole lot until the last trimaster. Also, remember, babies are most active when you are relaxing. So, you may not feel anything unless you are in bed and really concentrating on feeling something. I don't think I felt anything until I was around 20 weeks or so, but everyone is different. Trust me, you will feel pregnant before it's all over with. Every baby is different. Yours may just be more docile, or it could be the way the baby is laying. Enjoy it now because I don't think I slept a wink the last month due to my daughter moving so much.

Hi T.-

Well Congratulations on your pregnancy! And you are just a worried mom right now. Everybody gets nervous and thinks they should be feeling this or not feeling that. But the truth is, everyone is different. I think the majority of people start feeling movement around 5mos, but that all depends on the size of your baby. If your little one, is a little one, than it will take longer for you to feel movement. I went through the same concerns as you did, I think I read too many articles and was putting strange thoughts in my head. If you can hear the heartbeat on the doppler, I wouldn't worry at all. And if you get extremely nervous, call your doctor. But it is normal to not feel anything right now. Try not to overwhelm yourself. I think the 5 months - 7 months is your comfort time in the pregnancy. No nauseau, weakness, leg cramps, you should just be feeling somewhat normal again. I'm sure everything will be fine. And if you start to get really concerned, or just want some answers, go to the ER. Anytime you go to the ER while pregnant they will do an ultrasound. I wish you the best of luck!! Try not to worry!

T., first of all, congratulations on the baby!! If you do not feel pregnant, consider yourself lucky. A lot of moms who feel "pregnant" are dealing with a lot of sickness and discomfort.
As far as feeling the baby move, with your first, you don't ever feel it until on average 20 wks. Even then if your placenta is anterior, or laying in front of the baby, it shields the movements, and makes it really difficult to feel.
I'm sure everything is just fine. Unless you are having cramping or bleeding, try and relax and enjoy being pregnant. Soon enough baby will use your bladder as a trampoline, or kick you in the ribs. Trust me, you'll feel him/her soon enough!!

Congratulations! I agree with the other moms. As long as you are taking care of yourself and are hearing the heart tones on the doppler, the baby is probably fine. I was about 20-22 weeks before I felt my baby move, and then when I did realize I could feel her move, I thought, wow, I've been feeling that for a couple weeks and just didn't realize it was the baby! Laying or sitting very still helps, because if you are moving the baby will probably be lulled to sleep, and in these early weeks your movements would probably mask the movements of the baby. No worries!
