If Women Are Objectified in Music Videos, Why Would Women Participate in Them?

Some people claim women are degraded and objectified in music videos. So why do these women actresses participate in them? Aren't they oppressing themselves like a Jew supporting the holocaust and a black condoning slavery? Why do women participate in these music videos?

What can I do next?

Simple, they do not feel oppressed or used in any way, just like many strippers do it for the joy or some hookers/esorts - they ENJOY their job.

Short answer they are young and don't think of it as degrading. It is, but they don't see it that way, they see it as getting to be around famous ppl and getting a little bit of money. Oh and a little fame.

Are you serious? Can you not figure this out for yourself? Your examples are a bit extreme and oversimplified. Genocide is a far cry from perhaps compromising one's values for economic gain or being sold a line of 'oh, this is a great way to get in the door' for a desperate aspiring actress.

And study history: there are plenty of dark skinned people in the world who keep others as slaves. Perhaps not African-Americans, but whites are not the only race in the world which has practiced and condoned keeping others in bondage.

All through history there have been people who ave been "Judas goats". They are the exception, rather than the rule. They are all about money or power. OR they participate in hopes of saving their own necks. That is not what you are talking about here. And I doubt seriously that there is a single Jew in present day who supports the Holocaust or any blacks who would support the US going back to slavery.

Women who participate in what you are talking about look at this like a job and a lifestyle. I doubt seriously that they even consider the ramifications of what they do. The rap world is rife with terrible lyrics and subject material. And a lot of the people who are part of this live lives full of depravity. These women are part of that - lots of sex, drugs and living a lifestyle that glorifies all of this. They don't care that they are objectified.

Our kids are subjected to this as if it's normal. At some point, music and dance and excitement crosses a line where women are no longer great dancers and singers, but sex objects.

We have men who talk to our whole country, on TV, radio, newsprint, and talk trash about women, including calling those who want access to birth control prostitutes. We have politicians who say that women who are "really" raped won't get pregnant. They want to blame the women for the rapes, especially in the court process. We have people who demand that our teenagers not be taught safe-sex practices, not have open access to birth control, demand that there be no abortions, but don't want to support the baby financially after they are born.

It's all part and parcel of debasing women.

There will always be women who will take their clothes off for men for a living, whether it's in a video or in a strip club, or for photos or for prostitution. It DOES debase women as a whole. But the men and women who treat women in GENERAL as second class citizens are part of the problem.

I'm sorry, but I can't wrap my head around comparing getting paid to do a music video vs. the holocaust or slavery.

The difference? You're not going to be killed for deciding not to do a video. If you didn't "cooperate" with the nazis or slave traders, you were killed. I seriously doubt any Jew supported the holocaust. Slavery was widespread in Europe, Africa and Asia, so in a way it was "condoned" because it was how things worked. It certainly isn't "condoned" now.

Something called capitalism.
Pay. Greenback. Benjamins.

A Jew probably wouldn't get paid to "participate in the Holocaust."
(Although, Jews did work for the Nazis in exchange for life, a currency of sorts.)
And not everyone is in total agreement about exploitation in videos, etc.

People participate in their own degradation and objectification all the time. Women as objects is what we see all around us as we grow up - so it seems clear to me why so many women and men see no problem with and perpetuate it.
