Ideas for Feeding a 13 Month Old While on Weekend Trip

We will be traveling on a Friday to a Sunday and I'm starting to worry about what to feed my baby. One, what do I do about giving her milk? We are flying so can I take a bottle with me? Ideally I'd purchase milk when I get to my destination but I'm not sure how feasible that'll be.

Secondly, suggestions on food? She's eating finger foods (veges, fruits, waffles, toast, crackers, pasta, yogurt, cottage chs, cheese, etc.). We're staying at a Holiday Inn which I'm told has a refrig in the room, but no microwave. How do I plan her meals for the weekend?

What can I do next?

Could you hit up a store when you get to where you're going, and pick up some of those Gerber Graduates Pasta Pickup meals? They're great for on the go and you can heat them right in your room. I'm not sure how many oz. are in the container (we are all out or else I'd look) so they might be too big to take on the flight. There might be a microwave in the lobby of the hotel for customers to use. It would be a pain to have to go down to use it but it's better than nothing. Call the hotel and ask. I am sure they will do what they can to help you out.

Last I heard (a year ago, and I don't think it's changed) TSA allows an unlimited amount of breastmilk and/or formula on board the plane, though you are advised to only take what you'll need for the flight. I've never had problems bringing pumped milk, though they may swab the cooler or bottles (for who knows what, I don't know). I also have brought unopened jars of commercial baby food aboard (under the 3 oz limit). In England, security made me taste it to be sure it was really baby food, so that could happen.

And as for the fresh food when you get there, I agree with others that you can always give her some of your food when you eat out, and take a small ooler with ice around for the perishable foods you're using through the day. Have fun!

Sometimes if you speak to a hotel hospitality staff person they can offer extra ammenities (like a microwave) to better serve their customers. Explain your situation and it's worth asking about.

You can get on your airline's website to see how they handle taking bottles on board. I went on a trip last summer with my 1-year-old and bottles and sippy cups were allowed on the plane. You can always buy water once you get through the security gate to take on the plane, and fill up the sippy cup. I took Gerber baby food cause it comes in plastic containers and some containers were under the 3oz limit. Although, I think there are exceptions for the 3 oz limit on baby food, milk, formula. Just check with your airline. As far as being at the hotel, our child was still mostly on baby food at that time. But, all the suggestions the other ladies made sound great. Have a good trip!

You are allowed to take baby food and drinks on the plane with you. You just need to identify the bag with these items at the security check point. Make sure that you gave some cheerios with some juice or milk as the plane takes off and lands. The swallowing motion will help your child to pop her ears caused my the air pressure.
For the food, you can always take few yogurts, apple sauces and crackers with you in your luggage and I am sure you can find a grocery store where you can buy few additional items. You have the opportunity to have a fridge in your room, please take advantage of it.
The sandwiches are always a quick options (jelly, cream cheese). I always gave my kids some of my food as we ate in restaurants.
Enjoy your vacation.

My daughter is 27 months and I STILL take a soft-sided cooler everywhere including planes. If you are worried about TSA requiring you to dump stuff, use ice cubes in a plastic bag so you can dump the ice instead of a freezer pack, but definitely bring the bottles/sippy cups she is used to and bring them with the milk and water in them. You can always dump the liquid if they give you trouble, but I never have had to. This is also the time to buy packaged baby food as they won't hassle you if it's open (forget about homemade for this weekend!). Applesauce or some other soft fruit, a veg and maybe a protein (meat, etc.) jar should do it for a short flight.

We flew when she was about 14 months and at our destination, I did hit a grocery store. I have never really heated up her food, so the microwave wasn't a problem. Just be considerate of what you get for your meals and serve her a portion. If we don't think she'll like a kids meal, my hubby and I still bargain with each other ("ok, I'll get broccoli if you get the fries" as she loves both!).

Your daughter won't starve and you have every right to take food for her "just in case"!!!:)

GOOD LUCK!

you can buy milk in the airport at deli's and places like that. Just put an empty bottle in your bag.

You are allowed bottles and mine were scanned with a machine that I can only imagine was reading what was inside the bottles. The airline should be able to chill your bottles for you once you board the plane. Call the hotel ahead of time and ask how close a grocery or conveince store is. Sometimes this information is located on the hotel's website.
Best of luck!
