Ice Cream Delivery in West Chester, PA - Ideas?

Mmmm...ice cream!

Just realized that the heat I have here now in Kansas City will be making its way towards my Pop-pop in Pennsylvania later this week. He is 97, lives by himself and has no air conditioning. I want to send him some ice cream to help cool off but all of the online places charge a FORTUNE to ship and places likes Schwan's can't deliver until mid-week next week.

I looked at Dairy Queen's website and they don't have a "service" and places in Philly are too far. I googled shops in West Chester and found a few phone numbers. Do you think any of them would be willing to deliver if I ordered by phone and paid a fee or would they think I was ridiculous?

He does have friends that check on him but I don't have any contact info to ask them to do it for me.

He is certainly capable of going out and getting some himself (he goes to the gym 6 days a week!) but I worry that he won't think of it or want to and will just sit there in the heat.

Any other ideas or cool things to send him this week without breaking the bank?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the suggestions! He has no church to call on, just his network of gym friends that i can't call. But, I can call pop-pop and tell him to get out for some ice cream! I will be visiting him at the end of next week and plan to stock his freezer with all sorts of cool goodies.

Is he a member of a church? Maybe one of the parishioners would do it for you..

I certainly would do it for you if I lived up there.

Sounds like a "sweet" idea!

not sure of the budget, but for Christmas friends got us an ice cream of the month type thing. It's a company called flying noodle (i think, if you google that something should come up). I wonder if they do something on a one time basis. May give you a lead anyway.

I like the church idea. Or I know here in CO, our grocery store chain will deliver a truckfull of groceries for $10. Probably less than the delivery services.

How sweet you are! I hope you find a solution!

If budget is not too much of a concern, you can have ice cream shipped from Graeters. My sis sent a dozen pints and it arrived frozen solid in dry ice the next day. The ice cream was delicious too.
