I've been thinking about getting into the "blogging" world... how the heck does a person get started? what sites would you recommend? anyone make any money at it?
I read an article the other day that there are 20 women making full time livings as mommy bloggers - but they have branded themselves, attend conferences, do public speaking, etc. Then there are another 1000 women who make a little money on advertisements, somewhere between $10 - $1000 a month. The other 40,000 women who have blogs -- yes, that many! -- are doing it for fun (or wish they could make money but it's not going to happen).
Blogspot! They have templates and hold your hand, walk you through it. (I used my yahoo account, btw.)
I haven't used wordpress. I have some friends who do-- some love, some, not so much.
I love writing about parenting: both the fabulousness and foibles. That said, I do not know a soul who makes a living out of it. I'd love to, but I'd have to "monetize" my blog, and I'm too picky about who would get to advertise on it, so that won't work for me.
There is only money involved if your blog becomes so popular that advertisers start buying space there (I think). I have quite a few friends who blog-some are awesome with great blogs and high traffic, but none are making any money from it. You have to do it because you love it. I've heard good things about Wordpress and Blogspot.
I use blogger. I don't make money on it. Basically I review books, talk about TV shows. I just enjoy doing it.

My personal observation is that since google is the most popular search engine, these blogs get the most traffic.
I believe you need to sign up with a gmail account but it's all free.
