How to Know Whether Baby Is Teething?

My baby is 4 and half months, she is moaning all the time, doesn't want to drink much milk too. I wonder whether she is teething. But nothing special to see in her mouth.

Typical signs of teething include:
- excessive drooling
- slight fever (just warm to the touch)
- loose stools (but not watery)
- runny nose
- fingers/toys ALWAYS in the mouth
- trouble sleeping

Moaning is not one of them- please call your doctor. If you do not have a regular pediatrician, please find a clinic soon. It sounds like she is in pain (taking into consideration your other posts).

S., you may see my response to one of the several other posts that you posted today. Moaning is not a sign of teething, it's a sign of illness, not feeling well as would be not feeling up to her feedings and the other symptoms you mentioned in other posts.
I think your baby is sick and needs a visit to the doctor.
Teething babies drool a lot and stick their hands or other things in their mouths.

She very well may be teething. They start teething way before you can see anything in their mouths.

Teething at 4 months is a little early. It's possible, but you should bring her to the pediatrician, because that Dr. will have the best advice.
Your description could be no big deal... or it is a sign of a real illness.
The moaning could just be your baby's way of soothing herself with a "mmmmmmmmmm" , and not really a moan.
OR the moan is really a moan and therefore an indication of a problem.

Also, all of my kids would push away the bottle of milk or spoon of food when they have a stuffy nose, as they can't breath while drinking or eating. As a result, they would eat very little until I had the 'ah-ha' moment and used the nasal aspirator.
I would follow with a warm bottle of milk on such days as I always thought the warmth would help drain the nasal passages.
On the flip side, she might not be eating because she is bothered by her stomach.

Either way, a Dr's visit is the safe bet.

Hello S.:

Is it breast milk or bottle milk? If bottled milk, could she be sensitive to it? If breast milk, could there be something in your diet that she is sensitive to?
