How Much Liquid Should a 12 Mo. Old Have?

I recently took my 1 year old to the doctor for her 1 yr check up. She was still taking 4 or 5 bottles a day and small amounts of solids. He said to get her off the bottle (except for 1 at night) quickly. So, I basically just took it away from her and started trying whole milk in a cup. She won't drink it!! She will drink water out of a cup, but I don't know that she is getting enough. How do I know if she is getting enough to drink?

What can I do next?

I have always heard that if they have a BM then they are eating enough and if they have 4-5 wet diapers a day then they are drinking enough. So as long as she is wetting her diaper then I think she is fine.

I'm sure you have her drinking from a sippy cup, right? I don't think you should worry much, she'll ask water if is needs some but you do need to make sure she does have wet diapers and bm's. have you offered her juices and fruits. she should stay hydrated with that.

Hi K.-
As long as she is drinking something dont worry too much. Just make sure you are offering her enough dairy products, like yogurt, and cheese. She will eventually increase her solid food intake, and she will learn to drink her milk from her cup. Trust me she will come around, just keep offering it to her.
Good Luck.
