Ok, I have a 18 month old, and he's a big kid, like 3 ft tall and 30 lbs. I am on deployment right now, so i dont have a lot of control over what goes on at home. My husband tells me about all that Jake eats, and its more than i normally eat. I'm trying to tell him to chill, because he's going to make our kid way overweight, but he thinks its awesome that jake can eat that much. How do i stop him from making my baby obeise??

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well thank you everyone for the advice! You guys have been really helpful. The doctor said jake is doing great for his age, so i guess i cant complain too much. All of the advice will go to good use, though, i have no doubt. Thanks!

Well that is going to be hard since you aren't there to help. I would tell him that what your son eats now will affect him his whole life.. So if he is eating alot, at least make sure it is healthy stuff. Also, he may be just exaggerating a little bit to make you feel that your son is being taken care of. What exactly is he eating? It may just seem like a lot. I figure 3 meals and two snacks a day is more than plenty--and if he is eating junk then he will not be hungry for all the good stuff and nutrition he needs. His height and weight seem to be pretty good :P Also, my daughters have gone through major eating spells...My two year old was able to eat a double cheeseburger and fries and a drink and a dessert and still be hungry later. It could just be a phase... Now if the phase never ends, you may have problems lol. BTW My daughter eats like a bird now, and trying to get her to eat is an issue

If anyone might convince your husband it would be the doctor. You could always check and see if they have a website since I am sure you are unable to call and set up a well check appointment for your son, weight and height. If your husband takes your son they can explain to him the percentage of weight and height he should be at for his age. My son just went yesterday and he is 95% in his height and is now at the 50% of his weight for his age. He's very tall.

Or you can ask your husband to take him to have this checked just to make sure your child is o.k. Let him know your child is the last thing you should be worrying about during your time of service. Ask him to do it for you. Make him promise that if the doctor suggests a cut back on foods, juices, etc. that he will listen and follow through for the sake of your Childs health.

i would not worry to much about how much he is eating now unless it is a lot of junk but tell your husband to take jake outside all the time so he can burn that excess food off he is old enough to be playing outside. i know my son when he was a baby and that age would eat me out of the house he was always wanting to eat i know he use to go through about 8 jars of food in a day but i kept him every active and he is very skinny be sure to introduce the importance of exercise and playing walking and running and he should not have a wieght problem

I would have your husband bring him for his pediatric appt and have the doctor advise him. If your child is overweight for his age then the doctor can explain to him the risk factors for obesity in children. Depending on your husband's upbringing, sometimes we are brought up to think we should feed our kids as much as they will eat(food is love theory )because that is what our parents did to us. It may even be that your husband is exagerated so you won't worry but it has had the reverse reaction. If he is nervous that he did not feed him enough(which is most likely not the case) or is doubting his own capabilities being on his own-he may have exagerated the babies food consumption. Maybe you or your child's pediatrician and give your husband a list of things that are healthy snacks/alternatives as he may not really know if he is doing the shopping. Good luck. Sandy M.

My mother in law is like that, she wants to feed feed feed. Our eating habits start young and your stomach will expand over time to accomidate what goes in then it becomes necessary to fill that amount. My nephew is in sixth grade and weighs 162 lbs.(he's short also) This is from eating fast food and late at night and however much he wants. The kids at school are cruel and now he doesn't know what to do because when he tries to diet he is starving, theres that void of being full again. It is great your son eats so easily, many moms have the opposite problem but let your husband know it's going to affect him by way of school kids, health problems (anything in family history medically is worse when overweight), and eventually in finding a job. Looks have become everything in this world, which I am not saying is right but it's reality. I do wish you the best in this tough situation, just stress the importance of the future! Thank you for being in the Armed Forces and protecting us all!!

thats a good idea sandra.. i would try that L.! most husbans can be to prideful to listen to us sometimes but he might listen to a docter if he hears that obeisety leads to so many health problems! if he understands that its part of his responsibility to help prevent that and set his son up fo a healthy life, than mabey he'll see it in a different light!
good luck!
