How Can I Make the Blemish Go Away?

Hello All,
My 4 yr old fell in the store and scratched his face with a rack. I took him home quickly to clean him. I apllied an antibiotic and Meaderma on his face quickly. I have been doing that two times a day for the last two weeks. The scar is getting better but now it looks dark. He has a blemish now.

What can I use to make it go away? Or should I just better go straight to the dermatologist? People say that I making it a big deal because it eventually will go away but he is too little to have that blemish on his face.

Thank you
J.

So What Happened?

Hello Everyone,

Thank you to those who recommended different remedies. I stopped the Mederma. I'm going the natural route with aloe and cocoa butter. It will be softer on his skin. His skin is just like mine. It is sensitive and everything makes a mark that last a long time. That's why I try to protect it as much as I can while he is little. In that way he will learn to do it by himself.

To those that passed judgement so quickly about how I see my son...I'm just like any other mother who thinks that her son is perfect and only deserves the best: the best care that I can give him.

Thank you all and have a Mery Christmas!!!!!

His skin is so young that it will most likely go away in time. 2 weeks is hardly anything. Mederma is good.

Hi J.,

My son too fell in June and I have been putting Kids Mederma and then Sunscreen. Don't forget to protect the scarred tissue. It is young and very sensitive to the sun. My pediatrician recommended the type that has Titanium Oxide, which sits on top of the skin and doesn't get absorbed. I think that has made a big difference. I don't know if your son's cut was bad enough for the doctor to see him, mine was. If so, has your doctor said anything?

I agree that it is good to be asking questions. The face is very noticeable and you don't want a "scar/stain" to be visible.

Before rushing home you should have filed an incident report at the store. It may have been minor but could have resulted in an infection later. I wouldn't worry about a little mark on his face. It will clear up just fine. Let it heal naturally. That's the best thing to do.

Time will help it go away, and keeping it moist may help as well. Mederma is definitely overkill. It hasn't been clinically proven to help, either. As far as the dermatologist, it's probably too soon for that. I think you just need to be patient, and maybe leave it alone for a while. At this point, antibiotic ointment isn't going to do anything further. Kids have remarkably elastic skin (don't we wish we had that!) and unless it was really deep, which it doesn't sound like it was, it will probably fade away with time. The blemish could be fro

I don't think your overreacting, I would be the same way... I don't have any answers for you but I would be asking the same questions. So don't let people make you feel bad for "wanting" your child to be somewhat perfect ESPECIALLY because it's his face :0)

if it is a raised blemish, with scar tissue, if you massage or rub out the scar tissue it will heal really nice. it might hurt at first, because you want to rub out the scar tissue.

I would be sad too if my little boy had a blemish, but the good thing is that he is a boy. boys are expected to get scarred up. Just make sure he doesn't see or hear you are upset about the blemish on his face. It might make him self conscious, and that would be worse than his blemishes. I hope you find a way to lighten it. Good luck!
