My bathroom has a built in enamel on cast iron bath tub. It badly needs refinishing. Has anyone had this done and if so how did it turn out? Can anyone recommend someone to do this? I've seen a couple of refinsihed tubs and they looked like they were just painted, complete with paint brush marks. I do not want a resin or "plastic" insert either.
We had the baked on kind of refinish done on our tub almost 3yrs ago. We have been really pleased -- although we have followed all the recommendations in regards to cleaners, bathmats, ect... We had a company out of Tigard (on 92nd, I think, between Carmen & Bonita)

I researched this a few years ago and ended up going with the Miracle Method for refinishing. I was staisfied with the results. They recommended that you only use a soft cleanser on the new finish. Comet or Ajax will ruin the new surface over time. Also, they discourage you from using a skid-proof mat in the tub. Apparently that can do damage over time too. The tub is shiny white and really easy to clean now. The Miracle Method was more expensive than the other options but they really stand behind their products. Its been 5 years and no problems yet. I think its covered for 10 years under contract.
And while we're on the topic, the previous owners of our house got one of the paintbrush-type jobs, and the "paint" is chipping and peeling -- any ideas how to fix it or what kind of money I need to save for the job?

I used to live in an old 40's house in NE Portland and used Stanley Tub Company. It looked absolutley wonderful - no brush marks whatsoever and they do it in your home. With any refinish work though, you do have to be careful not to drop something pointy or metal or use certain cleaning proucts like Kaboom, which can damage it. But the company gives you a patch kit if that happens.
