My 3 year old daughter has been getting horrible hives all over her body for 2 weeks now. At first they didnt bother her but now she is itching like crazy. Some are small and look like little bites while others are long and skinny and look like scrapes. Any clue as to why she is getting these? She has never had a problem with allergies. We have seen the doctor FOUR times already, twice at the pediatrician and twice at urgent care. they are clueless!

Has she been to a doctor? If you are 100% sure it is hives, then hives can go on this long. She could even have a virus that causes them. The different shapes you describe are throwing me off a bit though. She could be getting bites that are causing hives, so check her bed, etc... If it is hives then a benedryl should make them go away...at least temporarily. I don't know how much a 3 year old can take, so do your homework. The "skinny" ones described made me think of poison ivy that tends to go in lines. With children I always like to err on the side of caution however. Two weeks and a three year old.....if you haven't already I'd see a doctor.

I know this might sound nuts but could you have mosquitos around ? I know it's early but her pictures (I looked at your link to your blog) look alot like my mosquito bites. I'm very allergic to them but they go down within 30 minutes to an hour and they are always better with allergy medicine. I know its early for mosquitos but I have seen some around our place and if you have a nest of them somewhere (window unit air conditioner maybe ??) she could be getting bit. Like I said - it's an off the wall idea but it is an idea ! Hope you find out what's going on....

It could be anything -- something she's eating, something new in the air, something she's coming in contact with. And it doesn't have to be anything new even. It can be the same things she's eaten or been exposed to before.

I have the same problem that started up in my 20s. My doc gave me Zyrtec for it which I still take.

You might try to see if you are doing anything new and phase it out. You could also google for the most common causes and start removing them from her diet/enviroment one by one. Otherwise, contact your doc regarding what antihistamine (sp?) is best for her.

Good Luck! I know how miserable it can be!
