My husband's cholesterol was in the mid 300s and we got it down in the high 100s within two months on a natural supplement for cholesterol. If you want any info on it, let me know. Dodge the statin drugs. They have killed more people than they have saved! There is no medical proof that lowering cholesterol numbers through statin drugs has had any change in the chances of heart attacks or strokes. Naturally lowered numbers do.

I know this seems scary, PM. The first thing they will do is talk about ways to help bring his cholesterol down without using statin drugs that are no longer appropriate since he has problems with his liver enzymes. This will require a big change in diet and some exercise. They'll also schedule him for an ultrasound of his liver.
Take heart - if he is willing to try hard to work on his lifestyle, the cholesterol problem will get better. I hope that he gets some acceptable news about his liver.
Best to you both,
D.

My husband was told his liver numbers on his bloodwork were high also. They sent him for an ultrasound. They called yesterday to say he has a "fatty liver". All they said was to eat a low fat diet!! (This is funny, because he should be on a low purine diet, which contradicts that!) Don't worry, hopefully, your husband will be told something similar. They don't know how to talk to people without freaking us out. ;o) Try to be positive. Good luck and keep us posted!

It means: Go to the doctor and get it checked out to find out why. We wouldnt know and could throw out guesses that will just scare you and make you more paranoid/worried. So, DONT WORRY, just collect your thoughts/questions, go and find out what the doc says.

High enzymes means something is wrong with the liver. Does your husband take a lot of Tylenol? Anything with acetaminophen (generic Tylenol)? This includes prescription pain meds since they are usually two pain killers. I take darvocet for my back and have for a year, my enzyme levels came back high because all the Tylenol was damaging my liver.
The good news is the liver regenerates. If his case is like mine -- once they find the cause of his problem and reduce/eliminate it - hopefully you will just go in for follow-up testing.
I hope that helps give you one possibility.

Was it a fasting test? If not, they will probably make him do a fasting test. I am on some medication that affects cholesterol and liver function, and so I have to take these tests every month. They will probably have him re-take the test, as well as go on a lower-fat diet (higher in fiber, no red meat, limited cheese/dairy, etc.) as well as cutting back on alcohol consumption, and increasing daily exercise and see if that helps. If it doesn't help, then they will probably put him on cholesterol medication such as Lipitor.
