Hernia During Pregnancy??? - Zanesville,OH

I am 3 months pregnant with my 2nd child, and over the last few days I've had achy muscle pain in my upper abdomen, especially in the evening. I didn't think too much of it, just figured it was random pregnancy discomfort. Then yesterday I picked up my son and got a muscle cramp right above my navel. I had to set him down because his weight against my stomach was too uncomfortable. I looked at my stomach later and noticed that I have a small lump right above/behind my navel. I never had anything like this the first time around, and my abs were in pretty good shape before I got pregnant this time. Has anyone else experienced this? My mom is telling me it's a hernia but I can't find anything online that fits my symptoms. This is really freaking me out!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I had my OB check this out and she said there is nothing to do about it right now. Technically it's not a hernia (yet?) but I do have a weak spot between the muscles right above my navel. When I get bigger I can wear a wrap to help support the muscles, and she also recommends a binder right after I give birth. There's no way to do surgery for it until the baby is out, and there's a good chance it could fix itself. It still weirds me out but I guess I just need to be careful and not overdo it.

My sister in law is a SAHM and works out 6 days a week. Looks like a million bux however with both of her pregnancies she had a hernia...and she said at times it was very painful. but she just had to gut it out (no pun intended)...she is also married to a doctor so I think if there was something she could have done to help it, she would have.

I am too 3 months pregnant, but with my 3rd child. All my pregnancies I have had "belly button" hernia's in the same exact spot you have. And it hurts the same time of day - the evenings. The pain is telling you that you have done too much for the day and that you need to relax. I also have stretch marks that circle around my belly button b/c of the bulge of the hernia. So far after each pregnancy it goes away and left with the the stretch mark scars as my reminder, hehe. But just drink plenty of water, let your dr. know about the pain, and try to relax in the evening hours. Good luck!!

Go see your OB. If it is a hernia, they will need to monitor you through your pregnancy.

Go to the ER now! Don't assume it anything. I lost a child and nearly my life due to a blocked instine.Don't Asuume anything make sure they check you out and then double check with your doc in 24 hrs. Also a hernia can block off part of your intestine. Please do not wait. Go to the er.

Totally posible that you herniated your umbilicus. Talk to your OB/midwife, I'm not sure what you do about it.

I had an umbilical hernia that needed to be repaired after my 2nd pregnancy. Let your doctor know what your symptoms are. The pain I felt was like a sharp knife going through my belly button.

Call your OBGYN and talk to the nurse. They want to see you. Until then, do not lift anything, especially your child. Hernias are most dangerous when they are small. At the end of my 4th pregnancy, I had a hernia so big it the surgery kept me in the hospital for 4 days (usually an over night stay is sufficient). Don't get yourself worried. It could be nothing.

Yes a hernia. I have one after my third child. I have never done anything about it. I've had it over 10 years. Not a big deal unless it gets strangulated. My mom had one and 2 of my sisters. I won't do surgery. Surgery opens you up to loads of other risks. SO until it is an emergency it stays.

I have a spot just under and to the left of my belly button, it aches almost all the time, and if i bend, lift, roll over wrong, it's like someone has shoved a hot poker into my tummy. I've woken my husband up screaming because i've rolled over wrong.

My OB swears it's just normal round ligament pain, but my first thought was hernia, i have the little bulge and everything, mine is just in a slightly different location than yours.

but be sure to call and get checked, but don't panic yet, cause it really could be nothing.
