My Daughter Has Stomach Pain.

She was complaining last night of stomach pain. I told her what I always say "You probably just need to poop"

After school today she is still complaing of stomach pain. So I told her to let me look at her stomach. It looks fine, but when I poked her stomach to feel if it was hard, she almost doubled over in pain. She is pretty dramatic though.... I poked it again to see exactly where it is hurting, and its about right above her pubic bone. I asked her tons of questions and It doesnt sound like a bladder or kidney infection.
I cant think of what the problem could be. She said she went number 2 this morning so shes not backed up. She said it hurts when she coughs or bends over.
I am going to make her a doctors appointment for after school so she doesnt miss school, but then I am wondering if it could be something more serious and I should take her sooner.

Any ideas?

So What Happened?

OK, I took her to the doctor before school. They ran some tests and everything seems fine. We are just going to keep an eye on it. I dropped her off at school after our appt.

Thanks!

Yes take her to the Doctor.

Could be a Hernia.
My daughter had that.
In her groin area.

Or take her to the ER.

My son kept complaining of stomach pain, ever since he had a stomach virus months ago. The doctor said it was probably a post virus inflammation of the stomach lining gastric reflux type thing. she had me give him prevacid for a few weeks and he hasn't complained for a while. Could she have pulled a muscle? Take her in. It is definitely worth it to get to the bottom of it.

What has happened? She may have appendicitis. It does NOT always present itself as intense double-over pain as many people assume! It also can linger for a long time before getting to that stage. My daughter had only a minor pain and it turned out to be appendicitis. She had to have an MRI and an ultrsound as well and it still did not show up. Fortunately a surgeon said he was certain it was appendicitis and he was right . So do NOT wait for her pain to get worse before getting her checked. Better to be checked and find out it's nothing than to wait too long.

Take her to the doctor now --do not wait until after school! Personally I would just take her straight to the ER. Even if she is not vomiting yet, she may not necessarily vomit much or at all with appendicitis. Rule it out if you can. If this IS appendicitis and you wait too long to get the appendix out, it can be very serious.

appendix? does she have a fever? does she feel nauseaus? we waited too long with my husband a few years back and he had emergency surgery-was totally fine after. he had a high fever and had been queasy all day though, in addition to pain in the abdomen.

Molly:

There are several things it could be.

If there is a "bulge" under her navel (belly button), it could be a hernia.
If there is heat around the area, it could be an infection.
It sounds too low to be appendicitis.

I personally wouldn't wait if she doubled over in pain I would make an appointment for today. I wouldn't take her to the ER unless she was vomiting and had a fever with the pain.

Keep us informed!!
