I need some help when washing all my dark (black mostly) clothes. Doesn't matter if its jeans or blouses, it comes out of the wash with lint all over it. I usually hang my clothes to dry them. I rarely use the dryer. BUT even when i do, it does not come off. I have to use a lint brush. I have been washing my clothes like this for years and just recently started having this trouble. The washer is only about 2 years old. Could it be the machine? I have even turned things inside out to wash them. HELP!!!! its driving me crazy....

So What Happened?

thanks for all the advice. I have always washed towels with towels, jeans with jeans, etc. etc... That was not the problem. I did get out my owners manual. I apparently do not have a lint trap on the washer, but in the problem solving area in the book it states that if you put too many clothes in the wash it could cause lint. I focused on that and it helped, believe it or not. Go figure...... I was overloading my wash. Hopefully that solves it.

Do you wash your towels w/them? You may need to wash towels separately or try washing your light cotton fabrics separately. I seem to have the same problem. It doesn't happen all the time, just when I wash w/towels. If you do wash everything together, try separating them first & see if that helps. Good luck!

I always turn my Navy and black clothes inside out when I wash them. I also use a "sticky" lint catcher (3M makes an awesome one) to catch anything before I put them in. Pocket lint can get all over everything. I pull pockets out when I wash to get rid of that before it goes to the dryer. Fabric softner (liquid) cuts down on lint. I have had to "re-dye" some black jeans after a tissue fiasco. Just use Rit Dye and follow the directions. Other than those things there isn't really anything you can do. Good luck.

Clean your lint trap, and did you know if the lint trap is not cleaned it can cause a fire. The other thing is, if you are putting towles in with your jeans they will get lint from that. I was towels with under garments only never with jeans, blouses etc.

Washing machines have lint traps that need to be replaced or cleaned on occasion. Depending on your model it can be located under the rim, in the center agitator, or connected to the drain tube. Find your owners manual or try looking it up online to find the location of yours.

I found that when I wash towels with my clothes, or sweaters with blouses I have this problem also. I do not think that the machine is the trouble, just different conflicting materials cause it. I would wash all cottons (jeans and most blouses) in one load, and all others in another load and you should be fine. Check pockets for kleenex or fuzz balls before washing and that should help too.

Hi I teach yoga, and practically live in yoga clothes, so black is my basic. I have found that I have to wash them seperately! I don't add very many other dark colors with them, and I try not to add anything that is lint-y, like black socks, fuzzy slipper socks, sweat shirts and sweaters. I mostly wash all my black pants 9 cotton and spandex mostly) and any black dressy pants, and a couple of cotton/spandex dark colored tops. then I put them in the dryer for just a few minutes (5-10)to take out the wrinkles, then I hang to dry. after they are dry, i put them in the dryer (w/o) heat just on "air" dry, for 15-20 minutes and it takes off most if not all lint. then I fold and put away. Be sure to check to see if you have a lint filter in your washer that might need cleaning ( Some do, and some don't). Also if you wash anything lint-y like throw rugs or towels, don't make your blacks your next load. Sometimes you have to wipe out the tub, or even run a cycle empty to rid it after a linty load. Hope this helps you! Blessings!

Bounce dryer sheets work well if you don't solve the problem with lessening your load in the washer.
