Help with Potty Training My 2 1/2 Little Girl

I just got done potty training my 2 1/2 little boy and it was the same thing, but with him, it was pooping. Every time he wore underwear, he'd poop. So, I basically stayed at home for a solid week, and let him run around naked. Eventually, when I put the underwear on him, he did poop and I knew by then that he had to understand where he was supposed to poop so I warned him that if he pooped in his pants again, he would be disciplined. Well, it only took one time of him pooping and getting disciplined and he hasn't done it since. I think that once they're potty trained and they are doing good, that it's okay to enforce discipline during situations like that. Now, he's had two accidents and I don't discipline him in that situation, but the whole underwear situation required it I think.

I recommend PODs. They are terrific and they actually work. You can purchase them at www.pottytrainingsolutions.com, they look like a large maxipad, and fit in the underwear like one also. They do not pull the moisture away from the skin, so it makes it very uncomfortable when they go in their panties. But it will also help with leaks and mess on her clothes. We used these on my little girl and she potty trained before we finished the box.

My little girl potty trained at 2 1/2 as well and we had a similar problem. When I finally knew that she was ready to poop and pee in the potty chair by herself, I told her that she was going to start wearing panties. The first 2 times she had accidents (peeing all over her panties and pants), I told her sternly how disappointed I was in her. (She's always been so sensitive that doing that was just as dramatic as if I had spanked her.) After that, we never had another big accident again. (There have been the little tinkles, of course, but nothing like those first two accidents.) Before you discipline though, I would try to make sure that you know she's really ready to go completely without diapers or pull-ups. We had been working on training for a good 6 months previous to wearing panties, with starts and stops in there due to various situations that came up (like the birth of my son and her going through a withholding stage that she had to get over). Each child is a little different, of course, so you have to take her cues into consideration during this process. There's really no right or wrong way to do it.

With my daughter when she went in her pants I made her have to clean them in the sink with a little shampoo in the water, rinse and wring them. She didn't like going through all that every time she went in them. Also I got her a little piggy bank. Every time she would go on her own with out me having to tell her it's time to go I would give her a quarter. But if she went in her pants I would take a quarter back. When she could go 2 weeks without any problems then we counted her money and went to the store to pick out her prize. Now night time is a different story, she had to wear pull up at night till she was 4. Then the same thing, she got her "allowance" for putting her shoes and jacket up. Helping mommy set the table, folding washrags when doing laundry and brushing her teeth. But I started charging her for every pull up that had to go to the trash. So she did much better at night! They like getting that money for their piggy bank, but do not like to give it up unless it's at the store.

My daughter is 4 years old now but she was almost 3 before she was potty trained. I kept pull ups on her the whole time and we went to go potty often with a child insert over the toilet. I praised and made a big deal about it when she went potty and that got her exighted about it even more. Keep praising her and telling her that she's a big girl and she'll be potty trained before you know it :)

My 2 1/2 year old (now almost 3) did the SAME thing. He went when he was naked but would go right in his underwear. It took about 1 or 2 times for him to do that and then he got punished. If they can go while they are naked then that means they know WHEN they have to go, they're just too lazy to do it.

This one time, he was sitting on the floor in his underwear playing with his toys and I watched him look down at his crotch and watch himself pee on the floor through his underwear. First, I spanked him and then explained why I spanked him. Second, I got paper towels and made HIM clean up the mess (as much as he could). They have to know that there is going to be punishment for not doing what they need to do. Like I said before, if she goes while naked, then she definitely recognizes the "urge".
