My little guy has had diarrhea for almost a mo now. It all started b/c he had an ear infection that would not go away. All the antibiotics he was on was causing it. Well, we took care of it, then 4 days later he got tubes, and guess what---the diarrhea came back. What can I do other than feed him his regular diet, which is unfortunately just formula and water and juice(we have stopped the juice). So, I also give acidophilus to help restore the good bacteria, but my poor baby is miserable. I need any advice I can get... Also, how do I get him to eat? He hates baby food and will not eat what we eat either. At least, not more than 2-3 bites. He used to eat so good like 4 jars of food a day. Now--just a bottle...

Now. let me clarify a little. We have not been on antibiotice since Jan 25th. We were told to use the Lactinex(acidophilus). We try food, but he won't eat---only bottle of furmula or water--he won't even take Pedialyte. He had bloodwork today and everything is Normal.... He looks great clinically, just has a bug now. The med thing has n=been fixed... TIA.

What can I do next?

Have you had him tested for salmonella? My daughter had it when she was about 15 mos. old. She also had lots of antibiotics for ear infections- got tubes- still had the runs. I finally got fed up and had a stool sample taken. There was not treatment but at least you know what the cause is. I also found that juice made it worse.

E.,

Hello,

To get straight to the point, because I know you want/need something quick for your son. Remember aloe-vera? Well, it's now in 4 flavorful juices essential for digestive and immune systems for the whole family.

In www.foreverliving.com:
Click come-in,

Drinks.
Scroll down to about mid-page and you'll see Forever Aloe Bits n' Peaches on the right-hand side. Great for the whole family, kids love it and your son will also!

It's 100% stabalized aloe vera gel with just a touch of natural peach flavor and peach concentrate.

Just give your son a taste from a teaspoon to see how he likes the taste. You may mix it with his favorite fruit juice or by itself. Drink refrigerated. It's going to fix his little tummy, entire digestive system and it's a great source of antioxidants and vitamins.

Please feel free to contact me with questions. Thank you E.. Enjoy!

Have you tried Cuturelle for Kids? It works great on my little one. You can get it at CVS or Walgreens.

my daughter had similar symptoms when she was about 18 mo. old. she just cried and had diarrhea and we were both miserable. i finally found a pediatrician that said she had an allergy to Milk. i realize you are using formula, but it sounds like the same kind of thing, an allergic reaction to whatever he Is eating/drinking. i would revisit the dr. and ask them about this possibility. good luck with this, it can be very trying.

wow that sounds just like my zeke, he had diarrhea for like 5 months and then he had blood in his stool. it started i think cause he had 6 ear infections in a 3 week period, the omnicef, is too strong for him. so we went to the gastroenlogist sp?? and they did a colonoscopy, and an endoscopy. They found he had candid of the esphogus. they put him on some stronger antibiotics, and that was it. it all stopped. hope this helps.

Call his doctor!! A friend of mine is going thru the same thing with her little one and they are testing him for some pretty serious things. I don't want to scare you bc the results are not in yet--but have it checked out asap!

make sure your acidolphilus isn't from a milk source, which can aggravate the condition of soft stools, try one made from carrots, or other organic soil organisms, one thing that has worked with my daughter, is "diarex" its a homeopathic cell salt that has proven (at least in my family) effective

Honestly if he doesn't have an appetite and has had diahreah (sp) this whole time, he is likely still carrying a stomach bug or his system has been thrown off. Please take him to a pediatric gastroenterologist (sp). The fact that he won't EAT is alarming to me. Children EAT!

Here is a site I found. I typed in "Diarrhea for over a month"
http://www.righthealth.com/Health/diarrhea_for_over_a_mon...

Try Yogurt. He might eat that. That has natural acidophilus in it. And remember, babies develop allergies as they go... he may actually have a food allergy. Perhaps dairy.

I'm racking my brain... I say, he needs to be seen.

I would take him to get allergy tested. My oldest son is allergic to milk and eggs and I had NO idea for 2 years, but he had non-stop diarrhea. It is a simple blood test and we found out about LOTS of allergies and it has helped us since we figured out the food allergies and changed his diet. Also, I disagree with the last poster. The acidophilus should be taken EVERY day. It takes a very long time to build that good bacteria back up once you have been sick for that long. Our Pedi GI dr. recommended that and explained that the effects are very long term. My son had also been so sick with vomiting and diarrhea that he has damage to his esophagus and is on the Prevacid and doing better. You may want to try and see a GI doc if it has been going on long term. My son likewise has a slow digestive track and so he is okay at breakfast to eat, but barely touches lunch or dinner because his body just can't handle it. We see Dr. Ogunmola(GI) and we LOVE him! And we see Dr. Tanna for allergies. He is also fabulous! Good luck and hopefully your little one will get back to normal!
