I know i probably should'nt have but I staterd giving my little guy small nibbles of table food. Stuff like bread, rice, chicken,ice-cream and whatever else we have for dinner as long as i can smush it up for him. He has his two bottom teeth and his top two are just popping out, and he chews pretty good.
But now he turns away from his baby food. He still nurses good as long (as there are no distractions). Is it okay for him to be eating to table food so young and not baby food ( I know I should have thought of that before i let him have it).
The other day i had to dip small pieces of bread into the jar of peas so that he would eat them.

Thank for any help/advice you can offer.

What can I do next?

I never fed my oldest jarred baby food. I made all of her baby food, because I had too much time on my hands apparently. =)
Anyways, what does it matter where the food comes from as long as it's healthy? It doesnt matter if you mush it up or Gerber mushes it up.
Just try to stay away from those things like eggs, fish, nuts, honey, too much sugar, etc that the AAP warns you against.

I did the same exact think to my daughter when she was that age, maybe even a little bit younger. Since then she is eating everything that i eat. Babyfood has been out of the house for months now!! As long as the food you are feeding the baby is healthy, then i dont think there is a problem = )

My son did the same thing! He actually never took to baby food all that well! He is now 10 months old with no teeth and i just feed him all the food that we eat, but make sure it is soft enough for him to chew! I am sure as long as you feed him all the food groups it should be fine! Now you don't have to worry about the cost of baby food!

Have you tasted the processed baby food? You fed him smushed up table food that has taste. He will be fine. If he likes the baby fruits and juices keep them, but just make up baby food from your regular food and save yourself some money. Babies the world over have lived off of table food smushed up into small pieces and have survived. Doctors suggest that you start with green vegies and then yellow vegies in the ped world. Just make sure the texture of the food isn't too thick. And what he doesn't get from the food he gets from the breast and that's all that is necessary. The other S.

Personally, I do not see a problem with it. We feed my 8.5 month old a little bit of what we are eating at dinner too. I feel like it will help their taste buds develop. I think you have the right idea by dipping the bread in his baby peas so that he will continue to eat his baby food. He maybe ready to graduate to the gerber graduate meals. Maybe your baby is just wanting to be like everyon else and feed themselves...AS long as the baby continues to eat and doesnt starve theirselves, I would say that there is no problem

I think table food is fine just so it is still healthy food.If you are having say spegettie you can sneak a little baby food in it.Just add baby food in stuff and he probably ownt notice.also are you using the third foods if not you might try that to cause they have a lot more flavor.Beech nut has more chunks in it than gerber that really helped my son with the transition to table food. Also your baby is going to start vitamins in a couple of months so that will help with the nutrion also.Dont worry about what evryone thinks you know what is best for your baby if you think that he is ready then go for it.Everyone always trys to raise our babies for us but who knows you baby better than yourself.Let them talk just remind you self always that you are a great mom and you know what to do.Good luck and dont stress about it

I think it is OK for him to have table food at that age as long as nursing is still his primary food source. I would suggest only giving him healthy foods at this age. Here are a few of my favorite staples: cut green beans, strawberries, bananas, smashed peas, yogurt, Kraft Cheese Crumbles. I think all kids go through this stage. My son is a year now and is doing well with the table food. Good luck!

Heck Ya! Youre fine! Just dont give him those "bad" foods like hot dogs, grapes, etc. Cut everything into teeny pieces. He will be jsut fine.

He will be fine. Just keep choking potential in mind when making your selections. He will soon love finger foods. What a feeling of power to be able to feed ones self! :)

I think that it is ok for him to eat table food as long as it is small enough for him. I made both my kids food so I didn't have to buy it, I would grind up goulosh(sp) or whatever we were eating. It tastes better to them and has more flavor so he will wwant it. I say keep giving it to him as long as he is eating.

its fine. i started giving my son table food at 6 months and there were things that he did not want. there were times that he didnt wants anything and i got worried but his god mother said that everything wa fine and he will get the hang of it and he will be fine. he is now almost 3 and growwing like a weed. my advice to you is dont give him anything too early but if he wants it dont hold him back. start him on soft stuff , like , bread, soft cereal, rice, etc. dont give him any meats yet. wait till he gets more teeth before you give him meat. you are doing fine

It will be fine. I have seen a lot of things with kids and have never seen anything bad happen to a kid that did not eat baby food. Don't sweat the small stuff.

My little one refused all baby food by 9 months and wanted only finger foods from our plates. She still swats at anything that comes from a spoon :( As long as your little one doesn't have an food allergies that you know of, have fun offering him a wide variety of table foods....just be sure to cut/mash them into small pieces to avoid choking.

Usually once you go to table food they like the texture and flavoring more than the baby food. If he is refusing baby food it is time for the next level. Try chopped or ground baby food in little pieces for him to handle and finger foods.
It is absolutely appropriate for him to be starting on finger foods, weaning from nursing, and eating small portions of table food. Especially since he has started having teeth pop up.
I was at the pediatrician with my step-mom, as we took my little sister who is 9mos. She has been on table food like mashed potatoes etc. She has been on finger foods, like the veggie wheels from Gerber. Shs is getting teeth. She is only nursing at night and at nap time. Doctor said everything was fine. So we are now introducing more chopped, soft, steamed veggies, Macaroni's etc.
SO if he is turning away from baby food, then he is ready for REAL food.
Besides have you ever tasted baby food veggies? They are horrible. You can also try to find a baby food grinder that grinds regular food into a coarse texture for him to handle. I used that with all my kids at this stage.
Good luck,
L.

Go for it. My 2 kids were both eating table foods by that age - and refusing the pureed baby food. Some of their favorites were cooked carrots (or canned), canned green beans (I get the kitchen cut so they are small enough), any kind of fruit - they love to bite off the bananas, and they can do it with our without teeth since bananas are so soft, little pastas (spaghetti noodles are harder than the shells, elbow macaronies, spirals, or other shapes), beans - as in black, pinto, ect... There are lots of options, and my kids LOVED to self feed - it made meal time easier for me because I could put some food on their tray and eat my food rather than spending all that time trying to keep their mouths full so they wouldn't fuss!

That's perfectly normal. My daughter just turned 10 months and she's been eating table food since the middle of month 7. The only baby food she still takes is mixed in with her oatmeal in the morning and that's only because it's the only fruit she will eat.

Some things she ate early were grated cheese in small amounts, bread, crackers, steamed veggies (broccoli, green beans, squash) sweet potato fries, avocado, tortilla, rice, black beans, canned green beans, baked egg plant, potatoes, grilled asparagus. I started letting her have meat at 9 months, ham, chicken, german sausage, brats, fish, eggs-yellow part only. She also loves gerber pasta pickups and noodles of any kind.

She still gets the recommended amount of formula and my pedi said she is right on track with her eating habits. The food you're making is probably much better in quality and taste than that stuff in the jar anyway.

Enjoy the mess!

I would like to let you know that it is fine I have done the same with my daughter whom is now 10 to 11 months old. She has been eating what we eat for a long time and for the past two to three months she doesnt like baby food. She is weaning herself off of the bottle and she is doing great. Just make sure you make healthy table food choices for them. He is finding his food manners and eating habits for life at this time. hope this helps just go with your gut instinct and nothing else.
