Help! Hot Flashes and Night Sweats

Does anyone out there have or know of any remedies that I can take to help night sweats and hot flashes? I'm 40 years old and had a full hysterectomy last September. Within the past couple of weeks things have gotten terrible for me. I will wake twice a night soaking wet. I've had to bring a fan to my office and keep it blowing on me all day. The hot flashes come and go but can be severe. A co- worker suggested I try Estroven (over the counter)for the spells I'm having. I've taken it for 8 days now and no change. I realize it can take anywhere from 10-30 to feel any relief. I really appreicate any advice.

Thank you everyone for your advice and suggestions. I'm calling my doctor today to see what he says. When I had my surgery he did put me on a very low odse hormone Enjuvia and I really hated how it made me feel. Also, my nails became brittle my hair was dull and let's not talk about my skin. He told me in the beginning that taking the hormone was my choice, some women do and some don't. I'm going to ask about the patch that was mentioned and see what he says. As for the Estroven, today is day nine and my hot flashes are notas intense and not as many. Last night I had a sweat free night!! Again, thank you to everyone!!

In case you haven't heard of adaptogens, they are a category of herbs that help the body deal with stress, restore balance, and support normal metabolic processes. (A lot has been discussed recently about adaptogens, even Oz on Oprah).

To learn more about fast acting adaptogen sprays and watch "The Story of Adaptogens Documentary" 10 minute video, go to VitalHealth.TunguskaMist.com

I would recommend you pick up the book "What you doctor may not tell you about menopause" by Dr. John Lee. I read the one on premenopause and found it to be very informative and it allowed me to make an educated decision about hormone and vitamin supplementation.

I have found that cutting out caffeine helped me with night sweats and hot flashes. But keep in mind that what may work for one may not work for another because everyones chemistry is different, so try each one atleast 60 - 90 days to determine what works for you. Best of luck.

Hi L.,
I suffered with hot flashes and night sweats and started on a product called Woman's Choice--oh, they were horrible! I wanted to find something all natural, so these were perfect. I pumped 3 of the tablets, 3 times a day, and within 3 days my hot flashes and night sweats were gone! I continued doing the same for 2 weeks, then weaned down to 2, 3 times a day for 2 more weeks. Now, I do 1, 3 times a day and after 5 years, have had only 1 hot flash that lasted about 2 seconds. I call that success....and I've helped over 10 women get rid of their hot flashes and night sweats too, so I know this works for not only me, but for others. If you're serious about relieving yourself...you can call me: ###-###-#### or order directly from my website: derweightlossmall.com. Either way, you have a 30 day money back guarantee...humm....all you can lose are the hot flashes and night sweats! What a deal for this day and time!

I look forward to talking with you!

I am going through menopause and when the hot flashes hit me two years ago, they were devastating. I had them throughout the day and every hour at night. My OB/GYN put me on Prempro, a low dosage hormone. I was not exited about it but, he said it was the lowest dosage and would not be a problem. I took it for 6 months and then stopped and I still have hot flashes but not as bad as in the beginning. Be careful about what you take over the counter and from Health Food/Vitamin stores. I really trust my doctor and he is very conservative. His own wife had breast cancer and died from another cancer so, I know he is very careful about what he prescribes. Keep ice water handy day and night and look into buying a Chillow Pillow. Google it. They say they are great. Watch your spicy foods and drinks that trigger the hot flashes. There is a website called Menopauz??? that offers much free advice. I wish you luck because it is a miserable feeling. If you google menopause, you will find volumes of websites that can offer help.

Helen Pasanti's hormore cream works beautifully. I also had a hystrectomy at 40. You used to be able to buy it at
Krogers, however I know she has a website and I'm sure you can order it. Helen is a an MD and was also trained by the "master" of hormone treatment, Dr. Lee.

I had a complete hysterectomy at 29, I'm currently 41. So I feel your pain. It's been a struggle for me. But my first question is: Are you on HRT? If you're not, you need to be. There's alot of options out there, pills, patches and sprays. It's just a matter of finding the right thing for you.
For me, the cycle has been that I have to change my therapy every 6 - 24 months. I finally found a doctor that specializes in hormones. They do not practice obstetrics in this office. They did a full battery of blood & urine tests to determine what my needs are before we proceed. Believe it or not, it's the first time in 11 years anyone has done this. It's been trial & error up to now. I'm scheduled to go back for the results in April.
Currently I'm on Evamist. It was great for about 6 months, then I started having hot flashes, my skin is really drying out, and I'm starting to have sleep issues again. I'm very anxious to get my results.
Let me know if you have any questions that I might be able to help you with...
BTW, the new doc gave me a bottle of evening primrose that's supposed to be a natural supplement to help the hot flashes.
Vivelle Dot was a miracle drug for me too, until I developed an allergy to the adhesive... I agree, no side effects, very convenient, loved it for 2 years.
Good luck!

Also, read Dr. Lee's book, as suggested by other readers.
