Help Family Member Has Lice.

Hi M., I come from South America (teacher there).... believe me we know about lices....maybe sound silly but nothing better than cone her hair with a small cone and warm water with vinager. My sister suffer of it, she has a beautiful hair and even the vinager elevate her P.H and let it more shinne, a lot patience and a vinager, take care, A.

When my niece got lice a few years back we searched everywhere for a homeopathic treatment and something that required little combing but you still have to comb no matter how sensitive their little heads are. We did find a homeopathic treatment none the less that doesnt hurt them like the chemicals of those lice treatments sold over the counter.
Here it is..

1 cup of viniger
1 cup of oil (baby oil or olive oil is what I use doesnt matter)
2 drops of tee tree oil
2 drops of lavender

Mix this all together then pour over the childs scalp soaking it place a plastic bag and tie it tight on the scalp covering all the hair leave on overnight. Then wash several times the next morning to remove what oil you can most of the nits will fall out while doing so. You can retreat often as needed. After washing check for any nits that remain.

ok the reason for the oil is to suffocate any lice remaining.

the lavender and tee tree oil is to create an unwelcome place for anymore lice.

Also try this place a few drops in all your bottles of shampoo of tee tree oil to keep the rest of the house from getting lice.

Use Nix shampoo and clean all stuffed animals, clothes, and blankets (as well as the house). Using a spray bottle with HydrogenPeroxide is a safe alternative to bleach and still kills the lice and germs. If something cannot be cleaned, wrap it in a plastic bag and leave the bag in the sun. It will "cook" the lice. You'll have to leave it out for about a month though. Oh! And HydrogenPeroxide is generally safe to use on carpets as well, so, after trying a small patch "out of the way" you should spray the carpets, let sit for 5 - 10 min, then vaccum.

My daughter had lice last week. I don't know anything about Licex although I saw the same tempting online advertisement. But from the Pediatric nurse and the School nurse I talked to and other websites about lice, there's no "easy" solution.

You HAVE to remove the nits by hand. Even the combing doesn't work 100%. The combs will remove the lice but not the nits which stick to the hair shaft with a type of glue. My daughter has beautiful,long, thick hair and after the lice killing shampoo treatment (Walgreen's) it took us 10 hours over the course of 2 days to remove all the nits (eggs) which are mostly on the hair closest to the scalp where it's warm for the nits.

I sat at my computer desk and she sat in kitchen chair which was shorter than my chair, I sectioned her hair with bobby pins and with a desk lamp began to pull out the white eggs one by one, hair shaft by hair shaft. Yes, 10 hours.......my shoulders, neck and head were on fire and you can imagine trying to get a child to be still to do this....it's awful. She had to stay home from school, and I took a day off work to accomplish this task --(and it's recommended to treat the entire household if they have symptoms, I treated my boys and myself even without symptoms)

During the time I was removing the nits,I laundered everyone's bedding, jackets (anything in contact with her long hair) in hot water, bagged up stuffed animals and her back pack (for 2 weeks) and have been checking her hair for nits I missed every single day since. The shampoo kills the lice but not necessarily the nits which can hatch within 1-7 days. A female lice can lay up to 200 eggs. If that happens you are back at the beginning.

M., please remember this -- it's no one's fault. Lice prefer clean healthy hair and scalp, it's not about "dirtiness" or anything of the kind. Lice happens. My daughter felt ashamed and kept apologizing.......it's certainly a stigmatism that needs to be understood more.

An old fashioned remedy, (instead of using chemical poisons)is to put mayonaise on the childs head...cover with a shower cap, and wait 15 minutes...The lice will suffocate and the hair will be really easy to comb out after rinsing...

Hope you can try it before you use stronger products..

Make sure that they also treat the car too. Because her hair touched head rest. I do hair and that is one thing we remind people to treat because usually that is forgotten about.

My two daughter use to get it every year, it sucks! They have really pretty LONG hair too and a few times I just wanted to shave it off :) Anyway, I wish I could remember the name of it, i bought it at the drug store and it had no bad chemicals in it and it worked really good. I really wanted to tell you that after reading a new story here about using shampoo and conditioner that smells like coconut my 2 daughters havent gotten lice sense. For some reason they cant stand the smell. The only shampoo and condition I have found that smell like coconut is Sauve and I think vo5 or something like that. I have to use really thick conditioner for my girls hair and Sauve just doesnt cut it, but I use it after using the good stuff :) I kow I wasnt much help in getting the lice out but hopefully the preventing info will help, good luck, lice really sucks!

I used to work at a preschool and I had hair down to my waiste. I had noone to help me get the lice out of my hair. I tried using vo5 oil and I would leave it in over night or as long as i could stand it. Lice cannot breath when they are suffocated in oil. Also, I hear that mayo and peanut butter have the same effect. Vo5 oil smells better and is good for your hair.
