Help--my Babies Chin Is So Chapped and Dry--maybe It's Excema?

My little boy has recently gotten a case of pretty dry, chapped skin right under his chin. I thought maybe it's a food allergy, but my husband doesn't think so. Maybe it's just from the dry weather and the fact that he is a messy eater and gets food all over him every time he eats and so I wash and dry it several times a day. I've tried some heavy duty non-scented lotion, and melaleuka oil, but neither has worked. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks

This used to happen to my son ALL the time! I found that what actually caused it was his jackets/sweaters that he was wearing plus the cold weather. His outerwear was actually rubbing his chin raw and then when he would drool it would irritate the already raw spot. Try keeping the spot coated in vaseline when you go out in the cold to prevent irritation!

you might want to try chap stick (not necessarily the brand, just can't think of another name for it) or vaseline on that area. It works great for above the lips and below the nose so I don't see why it wouldn't work for the chin area. worth a try, at least.

I use this balm on my baby's cheeks and chin a couple of times a day and before bed. It works like a charm.

My son gets chapped chin and cheeks every winter all I do is use aseline or non-medicated chapstick/lip moisterizer or I found vaseline in a tube form by the baby stuff. and it clears right up and you can use those as often as needed because there is nothing to them.

Vaseline on it before he eats, so it will protect it from being irritated by food or drink. You could try Eucerin Aquaphor. It is the same consistency as Vaseline, but has a healing agent in it as well. We use it on chapped lips, dry skin, cracked heals, etc...

I just went to the Dr for my son's wellness appoitment. He has really dry skin and his chin is chapped. I have given him the oatmeal baths, put every lotion that is for senstive skin and it has done nothing but make it worse. The Dr told me today to use just simple vasaline on his face today. I started this afternoon and I can already see a diffrence.

I second the Aquaphor. We've always used that on my son's dry spots. Best used daily before bed (stays on longer).

I also used the same balm, Johnson's soothing naturals balm or for faces stick, and both worked for us for that and for chapped cheeks. Wash gently and pat dry after he eats, then put on the balm and as needed thru the day.

to me, the sticks are just easier to apply and more convenient than vaseline

I don't think it is eczema from what you say but maybe it is bacteria from food, saliva, and just being winter on top of it.

I think the weather does have a lot to do with it but he may have food allergies too. Use a little Vaseline, it doesn't hurt or burn. It's good for your skin as well, I put it on myself too.

Try Aquaphor. We love it and use it every night on our kids faces when they are chapped. I use it after their baths when their faces are still moist.
