We had Chinese for dinner tonight, now here it is almost 10:30 and I am fighting awful heartburn. It is so bad I swear I can taste a little sour throw up everytime I swallow....TMI I know, sorry. I really hate taking any kind of medicine, is there anything I can do to help this that doesn't involve taking a pill? Tums and Rolaids both do nothing for me either. When I was pregnant and fighting heartburn sucking on cinnamon candy always worked wonders- but not tonight.

What can I do next?

Raw apple cider vinegar. No kidding, it's like putting out a fire. It works INSTANTLY.
Also, raw honey works well too!

I am so sorry you are going through this!

Well when I was pregnant tums worked pretty good. but I have also heard eating a plain piece of bread and drinking a glass of milk is supposed to help.

Have a glass of milk. I hate milk but it does calm the heartburn down a bit. Tums will help a lot. Also sleep sitting up a bit- prop yourself up with some extra pillows.

Like someone said that apple cider vinegar works very well and ginger also works very well.

I don't know...a lot of things give me heartburn, but only one thing works...Tums, or generic Tums, extra strength. I don't look at it so much as taking a pill...I think it's just calcium bicarbonate. Maybe try the bread thing someone suggested...but for me, bread gives me heartburn! :)

Take two tablespoons of vinegar-it will be gone in two minutes-when you add an acid, the stomach stops producing acid.

Put two pieces of gum in your mouth and chew it with your mouth open.

That will help.

I hope you feel better.

Baking soda... put 1-2 teaspoons in a cup of water and drink. Doesn't taste the best, but it works wonders. My friend swears by it, and I have tried it once when mine was really bad. I get some of the worst heartburn ever. I have even ended up in the ER because I couldn't even drink water.
Best of luck to you!

Robin's right. You don't have too much acid, you simply don't have any stomach acid to break down and digest what you ate. The stomach is supposed to be acidic and taking an ant-acid simply confuses your body. It will also have a rebound effect and the next time your heartburn will be even worse.

A teaspoon of any kind of vinegar (the best tasting works as well as any of the others) at the beginning of each meal will do wonders. If you simply can't handle that, a dill pickle will do almost the same thing. There are a lot of supplements that help with digestion and with pain but you can't rely on these things for ongoing problems. You need to replenish what is supposed to be there..

Hope this helps.
