i took it for a number of years and only stopped because we started juicing so much we were getting a lot of natural chlorophyll. I think it's awesome. No side effects, it's so good for your body in the past during World War One it was given as blood transfusions when the actual blood ran out. The only difference between chlorophyll and blood is blood has iron and I think chlorophyll has magnesium. Pretty good stuff.

Hi Cherie- I put liquid chlorophyll in my water everyday and have been for at least 10 years. It's very good for your intestinal track and aids in digestion. I have not ever experienced any negative side effects, only positive ones. I highly recommend it. I use the liquid chlorophyll from Natures Sunshine- they infuse a little mint into it- yummy!

I took chlorophyll when I was pregnant with my son and my iron was on the low side. I forget the mechanics of it, but I think it had something to do with increasing your red blood cells and that's how it increased your iron. Honestly, I can't remember. It did help me get my iron up though. I wasn't eating meat or taking iron supplements. I wasn't too fond of the taste and mixed mine in diluted orange juice. I had no side effects. Chlorophyll is supposed to be really good for you.

Hi Cherie----Chlorophyll is the compound/chemical in plants that converts sunshine into energy. It is why a plant based diet is so important for optimal health. We get energy from plants. In fact, the chemical structure of chlorophyll is one molecule different than hemoglobin. It is very important for our health.

Having said that, why do you want to supplement with chlorophyll? Have you been diagnosed with some sort of problem that would be addressed by consuming it? I ask this question because a Naturopath I work with teaches that it is the totality of the diet and lifestyle that determines our health. There is not a single supplement, vitamin, mineral or herb that will help our bodies to prevent disease. There is sometimes a need for supplementation if we are deficient and diagnosed so by a health care practioner. But, it can be dangerous to supplement if it is not needed by the body. Our bodies are carefully balanced and an excess, even from a daily multi-vitamin, will cause harm over time.

Please feel free to contact me and I can share in more detail, if you'd like. I have lots of info from Dr. Pam (the Naturopath...she has her PhD in Nutrition as well). I am happy to share, as it is my mission and passion to help teach others how to achieve optimal health. BTW, the first steps toward that end are to consume a diet that is 90% plant based by calories. Of course, you want to reduce or eliminate as many negative ingredients in your diet as well. A good book to read is The China Study by T Colin Campbell. And explore the website www.pcrm.org.

Again, I truly feel it is important for us to do our homework and I applaud your question here on mamapedia. There is a lot of misinformation out there, and some of it even comes from our health care professionals. It's not necessarily their fault, they just don't know what they don't know.

Lastly, the group I work with hosts health care lectures in the Detroit area. On Sept 21, we welcome Dr. Carol Watson, RN and Naturopathic Dr. from Indianapolis. If you'd like a flyer, please contact me and I can tell you more about it. I hope this helps. You have a great day. Be well, D.

I've taken liquid chlorophyl. Didn't suffer any bad effects.

Did a conventional doctor suggest it? I would think there'd be dosage included.

But whether conventional or alternative, moderation is the key. Taking too much of anything could cause an unpleasant reaction, like the runs or something. Magnesium is good too, but in too high a dosage, it can have an effect you may not appreciate! So if you're under the suggestion of a practitioner, follow their advice
