Headache and Vomiting 3 Year Old

Are you treating with BOTH Motrin and Tylenol? If he's not over 99 he does not have any fever and I wouldn't use either until you see a doctor first. As others say, it could be allergies, could be sinus, but continuing to give the medications is masking the real problems. And Tylenol and Motrin can both upset the stomach more! You're treating what could be allergies, an infection or a stomach virus or flu with treatment for fever -- which he does not have. Stop the meds and see the doctor.

I bet he just has a virus and there won't be much a doc can do for him, BUT I personally would still take him in just to be checked out. Better to be safe than sorry.

If he's drinking the dr isnt going to do anything but tell you it needs to run it's course. If the headache is bad or he has a fever for a few days (over 100) you might want him checked for strep. My older son gets an upset stomach, headache, and fever never a sore throat with it.

I'd definitely take him in...get a sick visit scheduled for today.

Did he fall lately?? My son fell last year and hit his head. He got a very bad concussion! First thing he did was just kinda sit there. He was tired and not wanting to do much. He said his head hurt very bad. Then after about an hour he started to throw up! His puke was thick and ugly also. He kept throwing up. And it was kinda violent! I was very upset. I took him to the ER and sure enough. He was hospitalized for a week. He had a concussion and he was very dehydrated and that is why he passed out and hit his head. Of course your son may not be in that state. But he may have fallen. Same boy I am speaking of here, he fell and hit his head when he was 3 also. Did not seem like he was too hurt. Well he ended up getting sick a couple of days later and I took him in. Doctor was looking him over and told me that he had a slight concussion and asked me if he had fallen. Yes. he slipped on water in the bathroom. BOYS! More stress than girls when it comes to getting hurt. He is 16. Good luck! I hope your baby feels better soon. Take him to the doctor if you can! Concussions are no joke. Specially when they are getting sick like that.

I wouldn't give Motrin or Tylenol for a low grade fever like 99*F. That's such a low fever. Plus, if he's feeling well enough to play due to the medicine when he should be resting then he's not resting enough to get better. And you're masking symptoms that you should be paying attention to (as others have pointed out, I see).

You should also consider that when a child is vomiting you don't continue to pump them full of medicine and attempts at food/drink. The vomiting is a sign that his body isn't ready to handle those things and will prolong the illness. Sleeping with occasional drinking (if he can keep liquids down) are far more important than food.

You should also call your pediatrician for advice and so that they have a heads up in case your son doesn't improve after a few days.

you answered your own question. you give your kids tylenol to mask the symptoms, they go back to acting normal and then you are surprised when they get sick again? they need those symptoms so they rest and relax and then they can heal. the drugs are masking the symptoms and delaying healing. Rest and clear fluids and hugs from mom is all the kid needs to recover!

Most doctors or insurance companies have a "nurse line" where you can call and ask more specific questions.

As far as the pain over his eye, he could be having sinus problems.... there are frontal sinuses that can become clogged. (The maxillary sinuses are the ones over the cheekbones, below the eye.)

He may be having some allergy problems, which can also cause the vomiting from drainage. (The reason you are seeing basically mucous, is because he isn't eating... there is nothing in his stomach to expel, just the fluids he is drinking.)

Frankly, with his behavior being that different (on Motrin he plays just fine, when it wears off, he is in pain again...), and that it has lasted this long, I would want to get him in to the doctor. Basic headaches shouldn't last that long.

take him in...could be an ear infection (mine never complains about his ears when it's an ear infection) ....maybe strep, which does a number on your stomach and gives you a headache...could be a tummy thing...if he's throwing up and not eating, stick w/ the tylenol until he can hold food down; motrin(ibuprofen) is really h*** o* the stomach.
