Looking for a kid-friendly lodge/hotel/or resort for a family vacation with our 2.5 year-old. She loves water so an in-door pool is a must. A beach would be great as well. My husband and I are interested in Traverse City, MI area.

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your responses. We are booked for the Great Wolf Lodge in early July, I am excited about the trip and for our daughter. I think she will be amazed when we get there and not want to leave! She still talks about the mini-water slide from our Memorial Day mini-trip to Galena, IL.

We stayed there last summer and the kids loved it. It was a bit of drive into the town area of Traverse City, but nothing too bad. We also loved the town area and there are some great public beaches in Traverse City. We plan on going back again soon.

We have not stayed in the one in Michigan, but we did stay at the one in the Dells. My daughter was probably about 14 or 15 and her friend was a couple of years younger then that.. they both had a blast!!

Hi K.,

I grew up in Traverse City (TC) and will tell you it is an excellent family vacation destination. I am not familiar with the details of the Wolf Lodge but would recommend staying near the downtown area which has great little shops for little ones and grown-ups alike. In addition, a short (really short) walk from downtown is Clinch park, a lovely beach with a zoo attached. If you are going during the first 2 weeks of July you will be lucky enough to experience the National Cherry festival which was my favorite time of year growing up (think kids activities galore, parades, air show, fire works, and fun for the grown ups too!). Since TC is a tourist town you really can't go wrong and I think, based on reputation, that the Wolf Lodge would be a fine choice. Keep in mind that wherever you stay, the city is very small and all commuting minimal. A lot of parking is allocated as well. Good Luck and enjoy your vacation.

We haven't been to the Great Wolf Lodge in MI, but we just got back from the Great Wolf Lodge in the Dells. All three of my kids loved it - 5, 3.5, and 17 months. There were a lot of activities for kids outside of just the water park, but the kids loved being in the water. If the one in MI is anything like the one in WI, I would totally recommend it.
