My almost 7 year old son had a Leapster, but recently it broke. He has been asking for a Nintendo DS as a replacement. I loved the Leapster because all the games are educational and the DS doesn't seem to have many games for young kids. What else is out there for hand held video games?

I know the Wii is not a hand held video but is a good opcion for home games. They have games were not only they can play but exercise too, specially in cold/rain days when you want to stay in. Extra point. the Wii ft is great for the moms too.
I agree with the others the Didj is the way to go if you do not want the DS...it is educational and my 9 year old son likes learning his spelling words with it.
My daughter loves her DS. I bought her all the brainage games which are very educational and really make then think. Of course they have other games that are just for fun to.
My 6 year old neice got a Leap Frog Digi for Christmas and loves it. You can even download their spelling words from school to it and they have to spell them right to get into a game.
My 6-year old has the Didj, which is the 'next generation' Leapster. There were not a whole lot of games out for it when he got it in September, but I'm seeing at least 1 new game a month coming out now. There are a few aimed at girls specifically, but there are many for boys or neutral gendered. Lots of math, language, etc. He loves it. Also there is the plug for the computer to upgrade and add games.
