Babies will grunt, cry out, TALK, babble etc while they are asleep...both my kids do (2 1/2 and almost 10 mos.) It gets quite interesting as they develop their verbal skills. I have learned to wait 5 minutes or so before I decide if one of my boys is awake, or ready to get out of bed.

LMAO... mine has sounded like a little piggy on occasion in her bed in the middle of the night. The first time I heard it I thought there was a wild animal in her room and went flying in there after hearing it on the monitor. Well it was my own little animal! hahaha

My daughter also hums in her sleep and occasionally will even talk now that she is a little older. The humming I know she does as a comfort thing but the other noises I am sure it is from dreams. Sure would love to know what they are about though!

Hope you are able to get some sleep with your lil ones nighttime noises!
Blessings!

hello J.
I am also a proud mother of a little baby girl. Only 5 weeks though. Since the day that I brought her home she was a grunter as well, she also has a fake cry, and I swear she laughs tooin her sleep. She was in the NICU about 5 days later for a week and was watched 24/7. The nurses said there, when I asked that it is normal. They are dreaming and sometimes it is gas!!! My daughter she has gas!!! Sometimes she is dreaming I'm sure but mostly gas!!! I wouldn't worry about it. Hope it doesn't keep you up at night. Have a good day!

Do you notice any other things the baby is doing while grunting? Does she stiffin up or get red or anything else? If so, mention it to your ped.. it might be a sign of nocturnal seizures- not to scare you, but my daughter had a seizure disorder ( runs in the family) while she was an infant, and she's outgrown it. but used to grunt, get real red and stiffin her body and turn her head to the side. Or perhaps she's pooping in her sleep?>

My 8.5 month old did this and it scared me a bit at first - turned out to be constipation and she was just working things out!

Ha ha ha... when my son was first born, he didn't scream or cry.. he grunted. He did it for about seven months, and then he finally stopped. He sometimes sings to himself while he's trying to fall asleep too. It's really cute. Don't worry- it's totally normal!!!

J.,
Does your daughter grunt often? If she does that isn't normal and you might want to see and Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist. I don't want to worry you; if it's occasional don't worry. I'm a nurse at Childrens Memorial. C. E

Could be something as easy as gas during the night or b.m. She'll be fine. She could be frustrated over not falling asleep. Maybe she would like a little soft music playing until she falls asleep.

I have a 6 month old son and he grunts all the time. He doens't act like he's having a nightmare, but rather like he enjoys hearing the sound.
