Grey Hair

After a Zumba class the subject turned to grey hair. I listened as the women talked about the lengths they go to hide the grey. I will admit that I have noticed a rapid whiteness creeping into my hair line. But, I like mine. I have dyed my hair before, but not to cover the grey, just because I wanted to try something different. So where do you stand on grey/white/silver hair? Do you hide it or pride it?

What can I do next?

Depends on how you think you look in it I suppose. If I let my gray grow out I would look 10 years older, so I'm staying blonde.

Hide it. Grey/white/silver doesn't look good in my hair. Plus it may be due in part to vanity. I am an older mom with a young daughter. I don't want to look like her grandmother.

Hide it ... but I started turning grey in my teens due to some pretty serious meds I was taking. Growing older with grace doesn't mean I have to show off the gray :+)

All my mothers relatives had gray hair in their 30's. I, however it happened, didn't get any until my 40's. I had worn my hair frosted and really like that I finally have "natural" highlights.

I started getting grey hairs about the time of my first born, I was 30. I told my mom one day that I needed to dye my hair because the greys were popping out again. She said I was too young to have grey hair - I said have you met my kids??? that's where it came from!!!! I have a battle with the greys more now (my driver's license says I'm 38 - but I'm 35... again for the 3rd year now in my mind = 35 is where I stop increasing) I fight the good fight with them, but of course they win most times in the end. I try to get my hair dresser (my MIL) to pick them out. But I guess I need them - grey or burnette... so off to the store for color I go...

HIDE IT! I started getting grey hair at 19 and it realy shows up a lot on back hair. I've always dyed my hair since high school so it's no big deal to me, I just have to do it a little more often.

Hide it- I feel too young to be grey! I doubt even when I'm 70 I'll feel "old" enough to wear grey hair well. My MIL has beautiful silver-grey that doesn't make her look older. I wish I would turn into that!

I have red, or HAD, red hair which is fading so even at my age it isn't gray yet but just fading. However it is getting white/gray at the side burns and now in some of the other places like the neck line, etc. I am leaving it and sort of like the look and it looks sort of like when you pay for it. I think after this many years why pretend I'm not getting older and I feel like I earned it, if you know what I mean. It is more coarse and straighter than my hair used to be but I sort of like getting to go from curly to straight too and getting to try that look out more. It's not real straight but different for me. I guess I'm just glad it didn't start to happen until this age though.

I use to dye it, but it was frying my hair and my scalp kept breaking out, so about 6 years ago I switched to henna.
I henna it every 8 weeks.
I get the silver showing up in front of my ears and around my face and when it gets to be too much the henna makes the gray a nice copper and the rest a chestnut auburn.
My scalp loves henna (I mix it with vinegar), smells great (I add a teaspoon ground cloves), I have no split ends and my hair is shiny, soft and full.

I love it in men, I hate it on myself. (mine isn't grey, though, it's white)

((My family has a very recessive gene, where sometimes our hair is snow white -and silky soft- by 18 or 20. You have no idea how BADLY I wanted to show up with that gene. Well, I'm 30s now, and I'm getting the snow white hairs. Too late, buckwheat! And not until ALL of my hair will be snowy white will I pride it. And then it will depend.))

Personally I wear it with pride. My mom has always colored her hair and now at 71, she is still coloring her hair and and I don't think she knows when to stop or how to. My aunt saw some of the grey coming in on me and asked when I was going to start coloring it??? I said never, why cover up something that is inevitable?

I did the home dye kits on and off for about 2-3 years and had fun with the colors. I am naturally a brunette, so I played with several reddish shades in that time and had compliments. I had fun with that, but hated the time consumption and maintenance. Also my scalp reacted badly to the dyes...for a few days my scalp was dyed funny till it wore off. Didnt matter what brand I used or the few times I let the shop gals do it. I have a very sensitive scalp to products of all sorts.

About a year ago I just let it go grey. I embraced it. Sure, it proobably aged me, but I am a pretty low maintenance person more and more each passing month. Less make up, less fuss, and with my job as a daycare provider, I can get by with that.

I have a neck injury I am dealing with right now and its very painful and frustrating. My hair is always a PITA to me and I have been ready for a change for a while. The neck injury and the pain involved in getting ready in the morning...drying and flat ironing..just got too hard. So I went and got it all cut off. Boy short. I am still getting used to the boyish look (since I don't really wear make up or any jewelry its harder to pull off)

But I think my grey mixed in looks WAY better with this hair cut!!! So embrace it, I shall

Dye it - I have always played with colors and styles since highschool. I have mid-dk brown hair naturally. As an older mom (35 with 15 years experience) and 3 kids under 15, I definitely DO NOT want to be taken for their Grand Ma (again!!!) Now when I reach my 60's I may feel different but how I can go from dk brn to grey without having some messed up roots is beyond me.

I am just now starting to notice the few gray hairs in my bangs...I kind of like them! I do dye my hair from time to time, but not to hide the gray, just because I'm bored with my hair! They aren't noticeable to others yet, so I could change my mind once that starts to happen!

I am 44 and I would like to showed if I had much. I started with 2 or 3 in my 20's, but I have not got many yet. I will show it though, I have short curly hair, so it wont be a big deal.....I hope.

I hide it. Although it does seem to come in a very pretty shiny silver color, I'm only 34 & not ready for that just yet.

My hair strarted turning gray in my early 40's. One of my kids asked me why my hair was turning gray. I told him it was because of you kids not behaving all the time. My 6 year old, youngest, went and got some drawing paper, drew a picture and wrote me a note. It basically said, "I'm sorry dad. I love you. I'll be good." Since then I've worn my gray hair proudly and put that note amongst my prized possessions.

Now, with my new job, Santa at Lakewood Mall in Lakewood, CA, I have to dye my hair to get it white. I wish someone had a white dye, but I've e-mailed L'Oreal and Clairol and they just e-mail me and tell me to see my local salon.

If anyone knows of a white dye, please PM me.

Good luck to you and yours.

Hide it!! I don't have a nice color grey. I think if I had one of those awesome grey streaks I would consider it but mine is nasty and course.

The greys are starting to take over here and I just don't care. I know too many of my contemporaries that never made it to get to the grey hair stage. I just enjoy it. It is what it is.
