One of our very close friends is graduating with his degree in Executive MBA. He is in his mid-30s & is married with 2 kids. What would be a good graduation gift for him? Thanks in advance.

When I earned my MA, my aunt sent me a card telling me how proud she was that I had been able to do it while balancing my family and work too. As adults, we are are rarely told that someone is proud of us. It was the only gift I got, and it meant the world to me. I think heartfelt words are the best gift~ esp at this age!

Wow! You just described my husband except he got his in Management. :)

My sister-in-law got him a very nice Cross pen and pencil set which is still in its box (two years later). I don't necessarily think it was a bad gift if your friend is in a job where he'll use it. My nephew graduated in Business Finance and I got him one as well but I hid it in a very cheap vinyl pencil case with a box of regular pencils, funky little kid erasers, VERY cheap manual pencil sharpener, but I forgot the very cheap calculator I meant to put in there as well (I got all of it at the Dollar Tree). He got a laugh out of it and still received an effective gift that he should have forever.

If your friend enjoys a drink once in a while how about a nice bottle of his favorite liquor? My husband likes martinis and I got him a very nice bottle of vodka (it was Russian and hand-painted with four different pastoral scenes) so it was very cool and I know he enjoyed it. }:)

In any case, even a nice card (my SIL got my husband one that sang the Hallelujah Chorus when it opened and he still laughs over it) and a dinner certificate, especially with his wife in mind, is a nice acknowledgement for their effort. And it WAS a group effort. I know. ;) Whether she watched the kids and kept them out of his hair while he went to class and studied or helped type up his papers or just gave him moral support to get through it she had a lot to do with his achievement as well.

Hope I didn't give too much information but there you go--M.

You don't say what your budget is. =) A gift card to a really nice restaurant is a nice idea...who doesn't like a night out once in a while? OH! And a personal note saying you will babysit.

Babysitting and a dinner gift certificate would be nice!

I love the babysitting idea. I think I would weep with gratitude if my friends offered to take our kids for an overnight. And as the other said, if you can also swing a gift certificate for dinner, I'm sure that would be much appreciated as well.

I think it would be nice if you gave them a gift certificate for a nice dinner accompanied with your offer to baby-sit the kids (if they don't have a sitter readily available).

Greetins A.,
When my husband graduated, our friends did a couple of things that ment the world.
1. they paid one monthly bill.Which at the time was a big deal!
2. they helped our family get away for a weekend. We used someones parents cabin, and we got to spendtime together and renew ourselves and bond with dad 100% -- we also rejoiced over the fact it was finally over.
But a nice gift card out to dinner, or help him fix things that he didn't have time to do while going to school! That is always appreciated. Nana G

Offer to watch his kids so he can take a well deserved vacation with his wife. Make it into a nice looking certificate.
